a speedtrap in my area typically is a small town that needs revenue so they expand their city limits sometimes 2-3 miles outside the populated area of the city....they then reduce the speed limit sometimes ridiculously low on a stretch of highway that doesn't need nor warrant a reduced speed....they stick a deputy behind a tree with a radar gun writing tickets.....

So expanding their city limits is called an ETJ, it’s legal and if the speed limit is posted on a visible sign approved by TX DOT, how is it a speed trap?

Trap for all the oldtimers who drove the road prior to expansion.

It happened here in Justin on 156 just north of town. Just 1/4 mile north of the last street in town the speed limit was for many years 55mph. A few years ago the city expanded and moved the 55mph limit 1 mile north of the last street. Let's just say it was easy to get busted for speeding heading south into town because what once was a 55mph zone is now a 45mph zone.

It happens and I understand your point, but when you've driven that road for most of your life at a certain speed, it takes time to adjust to the new speed limit.

Besides crossing the white line (failure to obey a traffic control device) making that turn legally is impossible, you would need to have your signal for 100 feet AFTER the end of the double white, not enough distance to do that. So that turn cannot be made legally in any fashion... so suck it up and go to the light.

Trust me... I am a Judge.

they were ticketing those going to the light past the double white lines over 45 as well as those cutting across. the oncoming access road is at 50 then drops at the end of the lines.

Cool. So those cutting across, speeding AND making the turn could get 3 tickets for one.

Excess of posted speed limit
Failure to properly signal turn
Failure to obey traffic control device

I am sure if you were nice they just gave you one and a verbal for the rest... But I bet anyone giving them lip got 3.

Another area of interest that The Judge needs to look into is the other southbound service road “widow maker” curbs that are planted in the right hand lanes - turrible design

Only town that I know of with a population of 194 and a full time police officer.

LOL. Any more, people call any place that enforces traffic law a speed trap.

Every trip I’ve made through that town, I’ve seen someone pulled over.

I’ve got another town that way, Lipan North of Lake Granbury. Population 384 and a town Marshall, whatever that is. He is essentially a rolling meter maid. You better be sure you’re going the speed limit and put it on cruise 2 below.
