What kind of duck is this? I have been on Lake Conroe over forty years and this year is the first time I have seen this kind. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2019/10/full-105166-28179-conroe_duck2.jpg)

Don't I have never seen one like it either. Beautiful duck! It took some looking but I think it is an Egyptian Goose. Native to sub-Saharan Africa, the Egyptian Goose is an exotic species in North America. Their introduction and establishment is not well understood, but the species likely originated from escapees from captive waterfowl collections. I always have my camera on deck and the last two trips to Conroe I have seen them. There are two that hang out at the ramp where I launch and today there were three at the Palms Marina. They are not shy about coming up to your boat.

Cool pic by the way. Always wanted to take my camera out there and get some pics of them but never remember to bring it.

Egyptian Geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) have become well established in Texas. The first one I documented was in 2011 but there are big flocks of them now in different areas around the state. They are spectacular and easily identified in the air by the big white covert wing patch. Great picture.

Egyptian goose. We’ve had three of the noisy things on our canal for weeks.

Looks delicious. As an invasive species there shouldn't be a season or limit on them; looks like thanksgiving or christmas dinner.

Looks delicious. As an invasive species there shouldn't be a season or limit on them; looks like thanksgiving or christmas dinner. Need a goose cook. From TX Parks & Wildlife Unprotected Birds Birds not protected by any state or federal law include European starlings, English sparrows (house sparrow), feral rock doves (common pigeon), Egyptian geese, Muscovy ducks (only outside Rio Grande Valley counties) and Eurasian collared-doves; these species may be killed at any time, their nests or eggs destroyed, and their feathers possessed. Yellow-headed, red-winged, or Brewer's blackbirds and all grackles, cowbirds, crows, or magpies may be controlled without a federal or state depredation permit when found committing or about to commit depredation on ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in numbers and in a manner, that constitutes a health hazard or other nuisance (Federal Regulation 50 CFR 21.43).
