bp74,it’s NOT a bad idea at all. You ALWAYS want capability to crank big motor at anytime just to move OR in an emergency situation. I STILL carry one,but it’s not for me anymore. It’s for helping others in that situation. It’s easier, lighter, & smaller than toting jumper cables. Another application for a prismatic cell type battery. It’s a great temporary fix to a power issue, but doesn’t SOLVE the power issue you are describing. So, until you get the power in the boat to run all the systems without running out of power, Just make sure your Li jumper is charged fully every trip. The problem will continue to worsen as your batteries keep getting drawn down to deep discharge levels and use more charge cycles & that will definitely shorten the lifespan of your current batteries. Deep discharge is very hard on batteries,in that they lose their abilities & efficiency to charge & hold highest power levels. After 1 year, that conventional battery rated at 100Ah is only going produce 80% of that. In 2 years it will be closer to 50-60%. As I said, the Li jumper is a great temporary fix for short term uses. Conventional lead acid or AGM batteries have life expectancy of 2-350 charge cycles. Lithium batteries have 3,000 or more charge cycles when properly charged. Of course Lithium cost more at purchase ,but, your not just getting longer lifespan of 8-10 years. All the other benefits are gained, especially in dumping weight your motor/trolling motor has to push & pull. Less battery usage each trip because there’s less weight to move or hold in the wind. Graphs on all day, Livewells ran constantly in hot months, etc... give me a call at(325) 998-6077 & we can help you get the info you may want. When using lithium for your 36v TM .Are you using three 12 v in series or a single 36v battery? What are the pros and cons of each setup?

Are you using the Ionic deep cycle battery from lithiumhub for starting?

I was going to roll with the relion 100HP (dual purpose) but Ionic is about $300 cheaper.

I went with the Ionci batterys and purchase from drew-tek, they have a sale going on now and they have package pricing.

I bought 3-12v 50a for the Ultrex and 1-12v 125a for the cranking. I did not have to by a new charger as my Minnkota Precision charger would work, just set them to AGM. I like the fact that you can check the status of each battery via bluetooth. I put each one on a charger to be identified and then renamed each one so I know which is which. And they charge very quickly. I do not charge them until the night before I am to fish the next day.

The Cranking battery actually GAINED .2V's.
Wouldn't it be great if when you put the boat on trailer at end of day,your batteries are already at 90-100% charged? That's EXACTLY what this does!! THE GAUGE DOESNT LIE.

I'm not trying to start anything. I just want everyone to know the correct information. When you series batteries the voltage adds up but not the amperage. And when you parallel batteries the amperage adds up but not the voltage. You can only add up either the voltage or amperage not both. Example 3 12 volt 50 ah batteries in series would be 36 volts and 50 ah. 3 12 volt 50 ah batteries in parallel would be 12 volts 150ah.

I wish it worked that way^^^.


My 3 55ah relion in series creates 36v with 55ah.

It’s still pretty impressive that your 36v 55ah lithium battery system significantly outperforms your old 36v 105ah traditional batteries.

yes way out performs, no drop off, so I use my tm on .75-2 all day vs standard batteries I would end up on 6 by the end of a 8 hour day

It's funny this post is here. I ordered a lithium battery for this exact purpose, and it just came in yesterday. I got a 12v/105ah. It will be designated for the electronics only. I'll give results after I use it a couple trips.
