I will amend my statement by saying. I'm guilty of removing my PFD once I'm back inside the 'NO WAKE'. That may be hard to remember the next time at the Falcon SP ramp.

It’s been a requirement in tournaments forever.. not that big of a deal to adapt it full time. I really think it’s geared more toward the pleasure boat crowd as most bass boats come standard with a hot foot these days. Unless it sticks the boat isn’t going anywhere faster than about 2 mph if the driver is ejected. If you don’t wear a life jacket wrap the lanyard around the gear shifter so you’ll remember to attach to your wrist or belt loop before taking off on your next run. Easy stuff.

You mean that nothing but string for a kill switch lanyard needs to be replaced? LOL I bought a new bright RED plastic coated one a last year because I was afraid of being DQ at a tournament for the warn out string that once was a proper kill switch lanyard. This leaves me with a question. What qualifies as a legal kill switch lanyard? A string or a proper fully intact bright RED lanyard? Does anyone know the answer?

For those of you forgetting that you have the kill switch lanyard attached and are pulling it out when you stand to fish.. I have the solution. Works great and you will remember it is there. Might also give you a bit of sympathy for your scaly rivals lol

But that’s not the letter of the law.

You simply need to have the kill switch attached to your person in a way that it will disconnect if the driver is tossed overboard. A neoprene wrist band is prefect. Not easy to slide off and on, but it shouldn’t be.

It’s just a “seatbelt law” and, eventually, it will be second nature.

They always go through the questions prior to hooking you up to the polygraph machine too. If you forgot during practice just be transparent and tell them before they hook you up. Problem solved.

The way I read the new law is. If you are above idle speed . You need to have a Kill Switch attached to your body.
If you always 'WEAR' a PFD while running above idle w/ Kill Switch attached to the PFD.
Your good. If you don't like wearing a PFD, then you can use any of the options
IMO, nobody should have a problem with this Reg.

BS deal that and the other 800 new laws you all don’t think there were enough laws out there 20 years ago maybe a few are needed but not 800 and we are payin all these politicians sack draggers.

Wow, I genuinely assumed that most people were already using their kill switch. I hope that doesn't come across as finger wagging. Just a little surprising.

I wear mine when I’m in a tournament. I wear it sometimes when I’m not. I have a hot foot. I just don’t need a law to tell me to wear one. Not sure how many people are killed by empty boats but I do know that the government likes finding new ways to take your money. I’m always surprised at how excited all of these red staters are about new regulations and fewer freedoms!

And still have no idea how this law is supposed to be enforced. Haven’t seen a game warden boat in over a year and I’ve been on at least 7 lakes in that time.

It’s no biggie, not worth arguing about for sure, just throwing out 2 pennies on a public forum.

My boat is over 26ft and thus not required under this law.

I have always worn the kill switch and will continue.

This law is not to save you. It is to save everyone else when your boat continues on without a Captain. Just like airplane seatbelts.....they arent for you. They are to keep you from smashing into everyone else. Think about it......

I have been somewhat lax in the past about using the kill switch and wearing my pfd when running but with the new law it has become very easy for me to grab the pdf with the kill switch attached from my drivers seat and put it on. When stopping just slip the pfd off and drop it in the seat....not an issue even though I don't totally agree with the law.
