I always thought of it as a phone jill. there is a hole in the top too, I think it may be a transphone.

Whatever it is, I hate it, because it requires a flathead screwdriver to remove it. Flatheads are the worst thing ever invented.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

Somewhere in the mid to late '70s I went through the house I grew up in and replaced all of those with the 'new' modular ones.
