Fisherman are environmentalists, or we should be. Why do we complain about pulling the plug from our boat? Drain your boat. We know boats are the primary way that these things get transported from one lake to another, so why not do what we can do to stop the spread. You are in control of your boat You can't control a bird. Control what you can control. If you are complaining about pulling the plug out of your boat, seems to me like you are complaining just so you can complain.

I rarely ever see anyone wiping down there boat at the ramp. Also pretty impossible to dry the bottom or the bunk boards. Next thing you know they will require us to spray bleach on the boat

For many years I have put in my boat a bar of ivory(99.9 pure) and it cuts greasy contents in bilge and also feel it create a unfavorably environment for zebra mussels. just my 2 cents worth

Seems to me, that theres a pattern to the zebra mussels. The lakes with huge populations of ski/wake boats all seem to be the same lakes with zebras, coincidence??? Nah
So are these boats being sniffed too?

I would like to know the results if they test ponds near infested waters which have no access by boat and no connecting waterways.

The only results we need to know is that the state will enforce the laws which produce the largest amount of revenue with the least amount of effort and fishermen at boat ramps are about the lowest hanging fruit they can get. The mussels transferred by the billions of gallons of water released at dams is irrelevant

It's just a matter of time and all lakes will be infested. Washing and drying inspections is just trying to slow down the spread, but the genie is already out of the bottle. They have to give the impression that something is being done even though it's in vain.

I cant understand how boats can be the "Primary" way these get spread. Maybe I am missing something, but don't they have like 4' pipes that move water from lake to lake? Pls educate me on this.

The argument I've heard used to dispel this fact is water is released from the bottom of dams and that the larvae can't survive at those depths, so the larvae doesn't get released with the water. I personally think that's a stretch! Fish feed in shallow water and those same fish can end up in another lake below a dam when the gates are opened. So far nobody has offered concrete proof that water released doesn't transfer them to the lakes or waterways below an infested lake. I can name one lake that is below an infested lake, that now has the mussels also, and added to the list.
