Hello, Gentleman.
For several years I have mainly fly fished. I love chasing bluegill and other sunfish on ultralight fly equipment but I have recently outfitted myself and the misses with a couple of ultralight spinning reels.
We each have two ultralights, one paired with 4 lbs test and the other 2lbs test a piece.
On conventional tackle I've always used live bait for panfish.
So trying to outfit our tacklebox with some productive lures for panfish, mainly bluegill type and not so much crappie.
I got some 1" mister twister grubs with some 1/64 jig heads. A few of those micro divers as well.
I was wondering what you experts use in the way of artificials? Also where do I find what you are using?
Thanks for the help.

I just about always use live worms as bait for the sunfish! I fish with several anglers who use nothing but artificial baits and lures. It seems that the Rooster Tails are the lures of choice and are very common in a lot of tackle boxes. As for colors Chartreuse/Black,White, and Silver seem to be the colors that I see them using the most. Hopefully the anglers who use lures and artificial baits will respond. Side Note: When I do use artificial baits it is usually the Gulp Alive Products and jigs, Chartreuse/Black or Chartreuse/Pink as the colors. Hopefully we will see some future post and catches.

I use Berkley gulp alive 1" minnows on drop shot with small size 8 hook or 1/64th jig head. Also Berkley gulp wax worms in chartreuse rigged drop shot. I like the wax worms because you get a lot in each jar & all it takes is one piece sometimes. I just started using panther martin 1/32oz spinners in all silver (deluxe silver). All lures I get are from Amazon usually but can be purchased at cabelas/basspro & walmart. Sometimes I get silver 1/64th jig heads from the fly fishing section of cabelas. Of course nightcrawler pieces are my go to bait before lures.

I use nothing but artificial baits and lures while fishing for pan fish. I also use a fly rod. As for lures I keep small Rooster Tails,Rapala Crank Baits, Bitsy Minnows, and a wide variety of soft plastics and jigs. Best colors for me are White,Chartreuse,Pink,Black, Green, Red, and Silver. A jar of Gulp Alive Minnows on a drop shot rig with a size 8 hook works great also. I have two Ultralight Rigs set up. One with six pound test line and the other with four pound test line. Nothing beats catching sunfish/pan fish year around on ultralight tackle. Side Note: Let us know how you do. Love reading post from different areas and water bodies.

Rebel Critter baits are a must. 1/64 oz jigs are good, but you may find casting 1/32 and 1/16 a bit easier. Especially if you need to fish deeper than a couple feet. I am a big fan of 2 Hot Grubs and 1.5-2 triple tail grubs. In smaller waters (creeks, smaller rivers, ponds, etc..) I like split tail grubs, soft plastic craws and small double tail grubs. They usually make me fish slower, but the latter two dont get hung up as much. When on new water or trying to find fish, a jig&spin (think Bettle Spin) or a 1/16 jig with a 2 or so paddle tail will normally make sunfish reveal themselves.
Unfortunately, your best bet to get all of this stuff is online now. Cant find it in stores like we used to be able to. Lurenet.com is a great place to start.
