Athens Municipal Water Authority can do whatever they want to do. They own the lake....not the home owners. Home owners have to pay to have docks on the lake, their taxes are ridiculous BUT --- they certainly don't make the rules for the lake

No, herbicide sprayings were not paid by the lake's property owners association, LAPOA. It was paid for by individuals and, in a few cases, by a few neighborhoods working together. Compared to the size of the lake, 1799 acres, efforts were very limited.
flukeman83 has it correct. LAPOA has made overtures to AMWA to limit boat traffic by reducing the number of places for trailer parking (grass and some leased spaces), but AMWA (and TPWD) don't want to make any changes.
Concerns were heightened last year by the discovery of a small bit of Giant Salvinia, hence the orange boom across the lake near the ramps. With a little luck, it will be removed soon!

I think it was two months ago Athens was featured in "In-Fisherman" magazine.
They said, and I quote, "This often overlooked hotspot..." and that its "filled with 6-8lb bass with several over 10lbs taken every year..."
Now that is a Yankee magazine. They have musky and walleye and stuff in that magazine but yea... I laughed at it being called "overlooked". By who?
