Unless the kids/captain were oblivious to an flw tournament going on which I highly doubt, they had already watched him either on live or on that spot the previous competition days. It's a shame a captain would show kids that kind of sportsmanship.

I'm with him ^. The captain missed an opportunity to teach sportsmanship that day.

part of the problem may be that the captains are not experienced tournament fishermen either.....that plus the fact the huge numbers of kids participating is crowding a lot of our lakes...

If they were watching him fish, knew he was there prior days, they learned a lesson on FLW live, and hopefully won't do it again.
B Lat handled it very well, kudos to him, very glad he won the tournament!

Move your feet....lose your seat. Just because a pro fishes a spot in no way reserves that spot for him if he leaves. That's the dumbest squat I've ever heard.

How come nobody wines when someone is on my spot when I am in a tournament? Or on our spot when I am captaining a high school tournament? At what level do I get to start reserving spots and how much notice did I need to give the local community?

That's tournament ethics something most new anglers have no clue about.they should have a class for it in high-school

Its pretty common courtesy. At least it used to be back when people were taught to be polite and say yes sir and no maam. Now kids are taught the world revolves around them and they can do whatever they want apparently.

lots of assumptions on these posts . Local kids , fishing a lake they probably fish frequently , highly likely they know of this " spot " from previous times on the lake . Also , how does anyone know they didn't fish this spot before any of the FLW anglers ? If they never fished that spot and waited until the FLW angler leaves , then I am not a fan of doing this . If these high school fisherman knew of this spot before the FLW tourney , and they waited for him to leave ----then moved in , totally OK with that . All of you bashing these high school kids are basically saying every spot an " pro " throws his lure is off limits to all the locals until the tourney is over ??

the picture shows the two boys fishing and the "captain" sitting. The classic high school setup. They were either in a tournament or practicing.

As a HS captain and tournament fisherman myself, I have a couple of thoughts. We don't know that the HS team didn't find that spot during prefishing only to come back and a pro is on it. If that's the case then what is the right thing to do? Not fish that spot, period? On the other hand, if they were moving in on a man catching fish in an area they weren't already aware of, which seems to be what most people are saying, then they were in the wrong for sure. High school fishing is great, we just need to be sure we're teaching the kids as much about etiquette at the ramp and on the water as we do actual fishing.

I disagree....if the spot is that important then he should've stayed on it.....if you make your living on public waters then the water is everyone's....not just the guy who "called" the spot. If he'd have been sitting there the kids would have fished elsewhere. Heck, they probably found the spot the same way he did.....if I were fun fishing it, I wouldn't move. Or expect him to.
