Donald Boris is top notch and not many around like him. I have known him since the paper graph flasher days for those who remember using them thirty years ago. Boris Marine will stand behind their work and Donald even had one of his guys replace one of my power poles after hours so I did not miss the tournament the next morning. Also he sold me some of the last of the old MG hydrilla hacker trolling motor props he had stashed for my MG 109 that he boosted up close to 125 at no extra charge.

Never had an issue with the folks at Boris, they've always gone above and beyond. Even the best of companies make mistakes from time to time, sucks to drive 90 miles again but I feel sure they will make it right for you. Please let us know how it ends up being resolved.

I did. It worked. Got it home it didn't work. Took it to Tim's Marine in Granbury. Circuit board he wired it to was not properly grounded. Tim fixed it. This is the second day I've been trying to get hold of Don. 1st hour it's the recording about winter hrs. but you can't leave a message. 2nd hr. he's on the phone or with a customer. He call me back yesterday 4 hrs. later. I was in work. Today I'm still waiting.

90 miles to drop it off one day and 90 to pick it up next day. 180 miles and 5-1/2 hrs. for something that should have been done right the 1st time. I resolved it myself by having it fixed in Granbury. 6 miles round trip and done right.

To Happykamper- I'm not blasting anyone on the internet, I'm telling the truth about what I had to do to get something done right. If you have an issue with that then that's too bad.

I spoke to Don yesterday about this problem. I know he feels bad about it and acknowledges mistakes were made. I was hoping he would ask how much I paid to have it fixed in Granbury and would offer a refund for that amount but that never happened. I'm disappointed in that but will still go back for any trolling motor problems but not for fish finders.

I know he's a great guy. Y'all have questions and some comments that are irrelevant and some are not and some of you didn't read or understand the complaint so I'll outline it . Boris Marine installed a new Hummingbird front fish finder (made in Alabama). When I went to use the unit it didn't go on. I took the boat back, picked it up the next day. It went on when I was there, would not work when I got home. A week later it went on and the next day would not turn on. I took it to Tim's Marine in Granbury. He fixed it. Turns out the new circuit board wasn't properly grounded. He found that in 15 minutes, ran a new ground wire, problem solved. Cost me extra but at least I didn't have to drive to FW twice again. Once to drop it and once to get it. This has nothing to do with who is a good guy and what wonderful things were done for anyone else. If it happened to any of you see how you would react. If he had a website or even an answering machine I could have had this done without complaining here. Someone made a a comment about my name- 'Mad Mike". That came from the men and boys I served with a long time ago in a s hole jungle for 22 months.. That was my handle and it was well deserved. Again I know Don is a great guy.

MM.... If you will PM me your address I'll send you a pair of pants that still has the A$$ in them. Seems the "Greater than thou" crowd has chewed the backside out of the ones you have now. I'm a Vietnam "ERA" vet. Sooo... didn't make the trip but had lotta friends that did. Some came back unfazed, some came back really messed up, some didn't come back at all. Thank you for your service!
On the comment about not being offered compensation for out of pocket expenses to fix problem. Should'a ask for it. I'm in business and sometimes... we don't consider all possible resolutions when there is a problem. Not because we're against it but simply because we just did not think about it.

It's not what a man knows that bothers me. It's what a man "KNOWS" that ain't necessairly so that has me conserned.

I think your story has been told. This is a forum and the appropriate place to share experiences both good and bad. A forum where you help others duplicate your good experiences and avoid your mistakes...whether it be fishing a certain lake, ordering online from a distributor or using a certain repair shop. We do owe it to the company to give them a chance to fix the problem before reporting their short comings. Stuff happens. Give em chance to make it right. Sounds like you did. You reported what your experiences were without attacking anyones character. You also reported a positive experience at Tims Marine in Granbury which I would have never thought of as a place for electronics repair so close to home. Nothing wrong with others rebuttals with their good experiences about the shop in question but why does everyone get so emotionally defensive when someone shares their experiences on a FORUM? Now: hows the fishing?

Ok to clear a few things up. When I got my chance on the boat, I flip the breaker in the back of the boat and it worked great. I was told we did not install the circuit board. And no idea it had a bad ground. The moment I saw it which was the second time he was here. It fired right up a few times in a row with zero issues. Everytime we had it, it worked great. Figured it was the breaker which Mike said he was going to order and replace himself I believe. It's hard to troubleshoot a problem when I check it and there's nothing wrong. I even check for a voltage drop and there wasn't one present when I checked it. I'm happy you got it worked out tho. And as far as getting some money back that's not my department. O, Jason, his nephew no longer works here. He's moved on the oil field here recently. Yes we look alike but I'm not related to the Boris' and I'm about 2 inches taller and about 50lbs heavier.

I've been dealing with Don for over 20 yrs. Mostly on trolling motors. Bought a new Hummingbird front finder and had him install it. He doesn't do it, member of his family does it. Beware.
I went to my doctor to get blood drawn. He didn't do it, his nurse did. Beware.
