Take it easy with the heat, you can ruin the part of the blank that's inside the tip. I've not resorted to this but I've been told that, for stubborn cases, you can hang the rod by the tip and gently heat the ferrule till the weight of the rod (+ reel maybe) will pull the tip off. Usually the tip is pretty easy to remove, but not always.

It is a glx 894 recoil guide rod. I didn't think it was fishable like it is. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought.

Yea, you got taken! Own it; spend the $3-5 and put on a new tip....then go fish...

It's the principles of this deal. I would never sell someone a damaged rod without them knowing. Oh well, on to the next one! Hope everyone has a good week and God bless and good fishing! fish

The guy who sold you the rod told you he would fish with it? Wonder why the SELLER would say that? laugh Ya, hes a crook and a lier but oh well. Good news: easy fix! Some of my lifes lessons were not near this easy to fix! smirk

You didn't get taken if you got a good price on the rod but the seller was dishonest with you about it. In its present condition it will shred your line or cut it. DO NOT use it until you replace the tip, and like others have said, it is a cheap, quick and easy fix. You can do it yourself, and I know it is frustrating that someone would do that but there are many out there that are just plain dishonest and feel no remorse about it.

Would not fish it but it's a cheap easy fix. A bad guide is not a deal breaker on purchasing a used rod, especially a high end rod.

The seller should get poor feedback from you, if he knew it was bad before he sold it. He will keep doing it otherwise.

Only if you want your heart broken... Change the tip, easy and cheap... Dan
