I'm willing to bet that boat came from Lufkin Marine back in the day. Maximizing profits.....

I bet he likes to fish and doesn't care about how big his motor is and only cares about if his trolling motor works when he gets there. Unlike many here who only care about going 74 MPH and catch 2 pounders and complain about CHASIN BASS VIDEOS while he catches 8 pounder SAL . LOL

Bass fishing has always had its fair share of snobs and elite. Just carry on and do your thing....

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

It's not unusual to see 150s on 22 foot saltwater boats. If you don't want to go 70mph, a 150 is more than enough to push a bass boat ... and very economical to run.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

i had a Charger sled with a 200 Yamaha the first year Triton came out. A 200 was a big motor then. A buddy bought one of the first TR 21's with a 150 and ran off and left me. As stated by tmd earlier, the first couple of years they were built to fly. But they were some kind of squirrelly. Designed be Earl Bentz, and he was a boat racer. But to mass produce and sell them, they changed them up a little so the average Joe could drive them. I think they quit making the TR 21 in 2004, so it obviously isn't a "newer" hull. It's probably a well taken care of early model Triton that jumps out of the water and takes a man to drive lol.

Because of 150 HP limits for many tournaments during the era there were some stout stock 150 engines available. An example is the Mercury 150 XR6 that sported a 200 block and larger carbs than a 175. These engines were marketed as 150 HP and there for legal. I too am one of those guys that runs a 150 on a 21' boat. My blue 21' STROKER with the inline 4 150hp Mercury Four Stroke is a familiar sight at Falcon and runs down the lake just fine. This boat use to have a modified 225 Venom on the jack plate but it drank gas and scared the wildlife!

Curious what you're stroke runs with 150 4-stroke?

Money? There was a long time poster on here I remember having like a 20' champion with an army wrap and a 150 on it. As long as it can get on plane its usable, not gonna perform like it should though.

My first bass boat was a 201 with a 150.. with custom raker 23p I could hop out of hole quick and run 55mph.. Not a ideal setup but it’s better than fishing from the bank.. the older tr tritons and stratos were light hulls compared to boats of today, not to much slower than modern 18footer with 150s
