Wanted to test out some soft plastics obtained at the 43 Annual Houston Fishing Show on Saturday.

After getting all the "honey-do's" completed yesterday, I decided I was going fishin' even if there wasn't much daylight left in the day.

Did a quick wade from 5:00 pm to dusk with one of my son's friends, since my son was working.

Hit an area that held both shell reef and grass beds close by, so Tim hit the grass beds and I fished the reef.

Tide change was 4:00 pm to a high tide, but with a double tide in effect Sunday, there was no significant tidal movement.

About 5:30 pm Tim landed the only fish worthy of a pic and the honor of making the stringer.

The 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER Black/GoldEye rigged with a Chickenboy "Chicken-of-the C" 4" shrimp soft plastic is the combo that this nice flounder hit.

Notice how the U-Lock™ locking device on the TEXAS RATTLER™ holds the soft plastic in place from a vicious sharp-toothed flounder without tearing it like a conventional jighead locking device - like a wire or lead prong - would do to your soft plastic.

Not much bait activity as darkness closed in so we headed to house the since we had scratched the 'fishin' itch' for the day.

On the 3rd pic of the Flounder ,,, Look into the GOLD EYE on this pic and you can see how powerful the reflection capability is with the diamond cut glass eyes I use on the TEXAS RATTLER™ - you can see the anglers hand and camera taking the photograph .. now is that cool or what ? cool

Grinder 55: Since the loss of the Rockport Tide Station in Harvey, where do you get your tide info? The only tide info I found for Rockport said the high was "0", and the low was "-.1". Not much current flow with that small a tidal change. Wind will usually affect current and water level more. Right? IslandJim

Thanks, grinder 55: That's better than anything I had found. A guide at the Goose Island State Park ramp told me that there isn't any significant tide change in that area. I certainly didn't believe him. I know it's not often a big current, but it's always some.

Double high/low tide days do not have the significant velocity that will move a lot of water, especially during end of January, February and beginning of March.

2 more weeks and things will start to change for the better big time, ... even on double high/low tide days.
wink

Thought I'd point out to our wade anglers that March is an excellent time of year to catch a big flounder.

Here is your "Fishin' Tip for the Day" : The big'uns start invading our bays this time of year and now is a good time to go wade fishing and catch ya one.

I caught my biggest flounder back in 1999 over a shallow shell reef, and, ... yep - it was in March !!!

Yesterday morning, William Yardley and Tim Teal fished together from 9 am - 11 am today and did a little comparison of the durability of the eyes on the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs vs. another rattling jig today over some shell reefs and the TEXAS RATTLER™ eyes held up to the knarly shell and the toothy trout .. pics courtesy of William Yardley.

Will was using the Chickenboy Whippin' Chicken Phantom Purple on a 1/8 oz. Pink/GoldEye TEXAS RATTLER™ and Tim was using a Chickenboy Whippin Chicken Pearl Chartruese on a competitors rattling jighead he was having some problems with his soft plastics slipping on him, so he came by my shop and I put my U-Lock™ on it for him.

Both launched from land using kayaks to go wade fish a shell reef in 20+ mph winds and Tim used his phone camera and Will used his waterproof camera.

Report from these young anglers that it was good trout bite until the tide stopped moving.

These young men - testing the durability of the color and eyes holding on the TEXAS RATTLER™ vs. another type rattling jighead on the market - tells you the rest of the story.

This may be the best pic ...

Will did a good job of taking those pics and word is that he is helping rebuild Rockport with his fiberglass work at the bait stands and his boat shop Blue Horizon Fiberglass

FISHING LOGS: Fishing Logs are priceless - if you take the time to start one. And, while you may eventually quit keeping a Fishing Log if you start one, the things you learn along the way will make you a better angler. Or you can learn from someone who has made that journey.

Yesterday started the Waxing Gibbous (def = humpbacked) moon phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. It lasts ~ 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous phase, the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible through most of the night sky setting before, during or just after the sunrise.

Tides ride with the moon and your tide runner trout will do the same. Trout are nocturnal and will stage themselves along shorelines to feed - especially at first light.

So the best trout bite will be an early morning trout bite for the next week with moonset times ranging from 6 am tomorrow - 9 am next Tuesday.

The "early birds" will get some trout ... and using a 1/4 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ Glow/RedEye jig to throw against the wind, rigged with a Pearl Gulp! was the ticket to a Texas Trout limit in these conditions.
cool

The TEXAS RATTLER ™ 1/8 oz. jig came through for me today ... I have been Hungry for some of my stuffed trout and it takes a good sized trout to have trout filets thick enough to make a cavity for the shrimp/crab stuffing.

1st trout strung today was as 23" and just what I was looking for. I rigged the 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ with my trusty plum/chartreuse SW Bass Assassin and it didn't fail me.

Trout was caught over grass beds with very little tidal movement going on.

It wasn't long after 1st light that there was no bite.

So headed to my car and grabbed some breakfast.
cool

The GREAT thing about WadeFish Rockport© is the fact that NO BOAT is necessary to catch a limit of trout.

In fact, by the time most guides or boat anglers get to their 1st fishin' hole by boat, WadeFish Rockport© anglers are well on their way to a trout limit.

Fishin' at 1st light just makes life right, ... and like I said: "NO BOAT needed for trout limits."

Kayak Angler BenC posted this pic of trout biting today despite the cold temps and winds.

Looks like they were hitting pink since he was catching them on the 1/4 oz. Pink/WildEye TEXAS RATTLER™ rigged with a Stinky Pinky Homewrecker soft plastic.

Will Y. sent in this pic of a nice trout he caught today wade fishing.

Report is he had several trout this size and caught them on 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ Red/WildEye rigged with a Chickenboy Roach "Whippin Chicken".

Will said he only had 1 "roach" color Whippin Chicken so he used it until the trout shredded it to pieces, ...

... which was about 9 or 10 trout caught on 1 soft plastic.

Now that's the TEXAS RATTLER™ U-Lock™ doing its job !!!

Will is gonna eat well tonight.
wink

REVIEW: Fish-Bites "White Knuckle" Shrimp & TEXAS RATTLER™ jig combo under a popping cork.

Fishing for a sunset for the soul and some supper I decided to test out the new Fish-Bite shrimp under popping cork.

Now some will say that it is the popping cork attracting the trout, but the deal is it still won't make the Trout bite because an angler can't reel faster than a trout can swim ( ~40 mph in bursts) so a trout has the ability to swim around a lure under a popping cork and "check it out" long before it decides to bite it.

Wave action from 25 - 40 mph winds do help the suspended 1/16 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ jig & soft plastic get some action and rattling noise from a cork when it is just sitting there between an anglers popping of the cork.

Feet wet as the sun was just beginning to set.

Using a 1/16 oz. Glow TEXAS RATTLER™ rigged with a Fish-Bite shrimp under an Alameda rattling cork ... 3rd cast in some shallow SaltH2O hooked up with a 2 lb. crab that fell in love with my set up .. at first I thought it could be a flounder with that type weight on my line, and when I saw it was a crab I was like - dang !!!... but when I saw how big it was I was like - I want to net that and put it on my stringer, but how ?

Yeah, .. that big crab tore up Fish-Bite shrimp up some, but it was still good to go with the TEXAS RATTLER U-Lock™
" doing its thing". cool

Scattered trout action on a serious incoming tide against a 30 mph+ winds and scattered trout action tore up the Fish-Bites shrimp even more ... with the last trout strung being the biggest before I had to put on another Fish-Bites shrimp soft plastic.

BTW, that Fish-Bite was white when I 1st put it on, the pinkish color is from blood from all the trout being hooked.

Proof of the effectiveness of the TEXAS RATTLER™ jig under a popping cork is the fact that the biggest trout hit it, ... despite its stomach being full of mullet.

I found the Fish-Bite shrimp to be softer and a bit thinner on the head than the Gulp! - yet it still performed well under adverse conditions with the TEXAS RATTLER™. cool

The 'Wind Witch' has been on a roller coaster this spring bringing in some atypical cold temperatures for this time of year in south Texas.

The result - from what I have seen the last week wade fishing from the Laguna Madre to the reefs around the Rockport bays - is that the Trout action has been scattered but some nice size to them when caught.

While Redfish and Drum action has been great on these windy days for guides and recreational anglers alike - bait or lures, the Trout Anglers have been doing well for anglers looking for some nice size to their Trout.

With few throw backs from undersized Trout that will come soon enough with warmer water temps, the action may not be what I call "steady action", but it has been rewarding with quality sized trout making the stringers.

Bright colored Pink or Chartreuse TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs have worked well with dark color soft plastics like the 5" Plum/Chartreuse SW Bass Assassins or the 4" Chickenboy Pearl 'Whippin Chicken'.
cool

BIG SNOOK caught on TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs made in Rockport, Tx. is what is making the news this week.

BIG SNOOK like to eat the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs - that's for sure !!!

Some cool pics sent in from Jason Trexler from Port Charlotte, Florida and AJ Johnson from Cureo, Texas of some quality sized Snook up to 31+" they caught using the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs last week.

Jason took several pics to show the size of his Big Snook, and AJ caught his Big Snook with his Dad, who took the pic.

Congrats to both these young men having Fun and making some serious memories that will last them a lifetime.

Busy with work, but I had to get a little time "in" the water for an hour or so, ... took one of our employees with me as we both took our "break" together.

The reward was a quality trout that a TEXAS RATTLER™ jig called up.

THE LOW TIDE BLUES:

Morning low tides can have the no boat, wade and kayak only anglers singing the Blues when the water has flowed away from their favorite fishin' hole overnight.

Put an evening rising moon with that tidal event and that's a recipe makes for some tough morning to noon fishing conditions.

Put the right game plan together a with the right tackle when that happens and an angler can still get some trout filets for lunch.

Knee deep before sunrise watching the moon set was the game plan to string some trout for my sons Happy Birthday party to go with some home made gumbo later today.

Smooth water on a wind protected shoreline and the TEXAS RATTLER™ was able to 'call in' some scattered trout that had remained after their full moon night time feed.

The moonset was the icing on the cake.

Out of the ol' SaltH2O at ~ 8 a.m. to clean fish, grab a quick bite to eat and deliver some TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs to Livin Reel Salty Tackle Shop in Portland before noon today, ... as promised.
😎

Some nice trout and red action using the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs were caught yesterday Ivan Flecha from San Antonio and Capt. Foster from Rockport.

Capt. Foster caught this fat trout wade fishing using the Texas Rattler™ Fish-Max™ hook

Ivan caught his reds at the Kayak Meet & Greet in Aransas Pass using Glow 1/8 oz. Texas Rattler™ with a glow firetail SW Bass Assassin.

Both of these anglers entered their pic in the TEXAS RATTLER™ Fish Pic of the Month

Thought I'd share a good fishin' story with my saltwater brothers:

Bass like to eat the TEXAS RATTLER™ jig too ...

Fred Ruland just got his TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs in the mail yesterday and immediately rigged one up and walked out his back door and hit a local lake behind his house on his pier ...

...and BAM !!! he catches some Bass and sends me the pics !!!

Fred made a cool video showing the lure he was using in action and posted it on my FaceBook Page: Texas Rattler™ Inventor FaceBook Page

Now is that cool or what ?

The TEXAS RATTLER™ 1/8 oz. Pink Gold/Eye jig using some Chicken boy soft plastics came through for some steady action.

Water is heating up and so is the trout n' red action !!!

Chartreuse/RedEye 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ jig and a Plum/Chartreuse SW Bass Assassin held value today with light winds prevalent.

1st Trout of the day.

Actually that was the 1st keeper trout of the day .. threw back 5 or 6 trout before landing this fat one that stretched 22.5".

Launched at 7 am and headed back to the dock at 8:50 am to go to work in the TEXAS RATTLER™ shop.

I wanted to show an area to Team REEL KEEPERS that we scouted for the Babes on Babe Tourney this weekend that they are fishing in.

Trout almost every cast when we pulled 1st drift, the biggest being 22.5" .. worked the shoreline a bit for reds and flounder - nada, not even a rat red.

Wind picked up and muddier water than when we got there moved in on 2nd drift and time was up soon thereafter for this scouting mission - but the knowledge was transferred and that was our goal.

Well, .. that and catching some trout for my Mom on her visit from Temple, ... I promised her some of my stuffed trout tonight and a man's gotta keep his promise !!!

Nice! What water depth did you find the trout in? I was out yesterday afternoon and finally found some trout in deeper water and was able to scratch out a limit. Was in 3.5-4ft of slightly off colored water. Didn't see any reds shallow. Just moved here and have been struggling until yesterday, any tips would be appreciated!

Csafisher - Worked an area that had grass beds and scattered pockets of mud n' shell mix 2.5' - 1.5 ft.

Biggest trout was caught in about 2' of SaltH2O and probably the best action for keepers was at that depth on our 2 drifts.

Didn't stay long ... promises to keep with some Tackle Shops that want their TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs, ... like yesterday.

Good trout action, ... I had a fish on my 1st 8 casts of the 1st drift this morning, ...but no reds with'em today.

Well, i see where your son gets his good looks.

Now, if someone would just use those jigs weedless and win a big bass tourney.. grin

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Any rain we get will only help the fishing.

I've caught some big trout in brackish water that redfish love to play in.

Tides will be UP, so we will get some fresh saltwater from the Gulf of Mexico to go with the rain and that will increase the oxygen levels and lower the water temps which makes those Trout n' Reds frisky and hungry.

These type conditions gives an angler a good chance to catch a Texas Slam.

OK - here is a cool story …

I was headed to Castaways Bait & Tackle in Corpus Christi Fri. mornin' and had just got in Mr. James Mathison's Texas Rattler™ cap in he ordered via our web site and messaged him via FB that he could pick it up today at Castaway's since he lived & worked in that area ..

well he walked in while I was showing Glenn Laskowski Jr. and his Mom, Sandy the TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP and how I rigged and made it special for the Z-MAX™ …

didn't have an extra Z-MAX™ to give Mr. Mathison but I had an extra TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ I could give him and told him what I'd do on a TEXAS RATTLER™ jig is cut the head off and rig it up on a TEXAS RATTLER jig … but that Castaway's should be carrying the Z-MAX soon …

- so Mr. Mathison decided to save the head on the TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ and an rig it up like he did in the pic and caught some reds rigging it "his way" .. pretty good idea and it made for a cool pic courtesy of Mr. James Mathison !!!

Matt Murphy from Austin, Texas had some Fun in Rockport this past weekend.

Matt went to SEAWORTHY MARINE - which is the only tackle shop in Rockport that carries the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs and TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ and Rattling Spoons …. and he picked up some of the TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ and a Fishin' cap.

Matt reported that after his purchase he went fishing in the middle of the day when it was pretty hot back in Copano Bay, and he caught 5 Redfish, released 4 of them and took 1 home for supper.

Got to do a little wade Fishin' for a few hours.

Since Rockport is a city built on a peninsula, I cruised by Fulton Harbor to see what the wind conditions were on the east side 1st hand before I picked my wade location, then using the light from a lamp post I rigged up a White Shrimp/FireTail TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ under a popping cork.

Gave a few Fishin' Tips to an angler while at Fulton Harbor and one thing led to another and he took this pic of me rigging up.

As my feet first got wet, I saw plenty of bait being trapped on the apex of the reef in 2 -3 ft. of the ol’ SaltH2O, so I chose to fish and work that area until the trout bite stopped. And it did as soon as the sunrise was over.

Then as the bait started migrating from the shallow part of the reef, I slowly stalked it … staying just within casting distance from it. Easing my way with gentle steps on some crunchy oyster shell towards the deeper part of the reef - while doing my best not to disturb Mother Nature’s marine scene - I started working the deeper depths of the 4 – 6 ft. area of this reef.

As conditions changed so did my tactics.

As I stalked the bait and the trout, I took off the popping cork and switched to a GLOW/Chartreuse TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ on a 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ to finish my fishing adventure for the day.

FISHING TIP: Even when wading, follow the bait. It may be up shallow early and migrate as the morning sun lights the day. There were several other anglers fishing around this reef, and the bite was shallow early and they stayed where the bite was and didn’t get the action I was getting as the bait moved off the apex of that reef.

I took advantage of having the day off since the TEXAS RATTLER™ shop is closed on Labor Day and game plan was to fish an area where my son, Rex2 and I could catch both trout n' reds.

Squall just before daybreak picked winds up at the 1st location I wanted to fish, so we cruised to another spot about 15 minutes away and had our feet wet at 1st light.

No keeper trout on the reefy area we started out fishing - but a TON of BAIT and small Reds, Trout and a lonely Drum so we pulled the "INSIDE-OUTSIDE" wade fishing tactic to locate some fish as squalls pushed around us with visible rain in them.

Using the "Inside - Outside" game plan we wade fished abreast of each other 50+ feet apart headed south and I cast from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock - at the grass line - with a 1/4 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ 3D Gold Spoon while Rex2 cast and worked the area from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock - from 3 ft to about 5 ft. - with a popping cork and a TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ rigged like a 'live shrimp' and with some menhaden oil on the tail.

Picked up some scattered bites doing this.

Then Bam !!! … I found the tug I was looking for !!!

It was right next to the shoreline and the bend in it.

That's where the fish were !!!

Sure enough, on an outgoing tide we found some pretty dang good action at this slough and the gut running out from it, which produced keeper Reds and Trout for about 20 minutes or so. We strung both for awhile until Rex2 had his limit of Trout that he wanted and then we headed to the Hacienda de Texas Rattler around 9:15 am.

Guess what was for lunch ?

Flounder are starting to stage in the back bays.

Nice flounder strung by Steve Oceas of Austin Texas using a 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ Red/WildEye with a TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™.

Steve said he caught 6 flounder and a lot trout using that set up.

Nice little red in first pic... sucks he broke his rod on it. I don't see another rod on his belt so was this a trip ending fish? That would really bite to have to walk a half a mile back to the boat/car to get another rod. Hope one of you had a back up! Ivan was game... he got the fish in and lure back! Kudo's to him!
