Got to do a little wade Fishin' for a few hours.

Since Rockport is a city built on a peninsula, I cruised by Fulton Harbor to see what the wind conditions were on the east side 1st hand before I picked my wade location, then using the light from a lamp post I rigged up a White Shrimp/FireTail TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ under a popping cork.

Gave a few Fishin' Tips to an angler while at Fulton Harbor and one thing led to another and he took this pic of me rigging up.

As my feet first got wet, I saw plenty of bait being trapped on the apex of the reef in 2 -3 ft. of the ol’ SaltH2O, so I chose to fish and work that area until the trout bite stopped. And it did as soon as the sunrise was over.

Then as the bait started migrating from the shallow part of the reef, I slowly stalked it … staying just within casting distance from it. Easing my way with gentle steps on some crunchy oyster shell towards the deeper part of the reef - while doing my best not to disturb Mother Nature’s marine scene - I started working the deeper depths of the 4 – 6 ft. area of this reef.

As conditions changed so did my tactics.

As I stalked the bait and the trout, I took off the popping cork and switched to a GLOW/Chartreuse TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ on a 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ to finish my fishing adventure for the day.

FISHING TIP: Even when wading, follow the bait. It may be up shallow early and migrate as the morning sun lights the day. There were several other anglers fishing around this reef, and the bite was shallow early and they stayed where the bite was and didn’t get the action I was getting as the bait moved off the apex of that reef.

I took advantage of having the day off since the TEXAS RATTLER™ shop is closed on Labor Day and game plan was to fish an area where my son, Rex2 and I could catch both trout n' reds.

Squall just before daybreak picked winds up at the 1st location I wanted to fish, so we cruised to another spot about 15 minutes away and had our feet wet at 1st light.

No keeper trout on the reefy area we started out fishing - but a TON of BAIT and small Reds, Trout and a lonely Drum so we pulled the "INSIDE-OUTSIDE" wade fishing tactic to locate some fish as squalls pushed around us with visible rain in them.

Using the "Inside - Outside" game plan we wade fished abreast of each other 50+ feet apart headed south and I cast from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock - at the grass line - with a 1/4 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ 3D Gold Spoon while Rex2 cast and worked the area from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock - from 3 ft to about 5 ft. - with a popping cork and a TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™ rigged like a 'live shrimp' and with some menhaden oil on the tail.

Picked up some scattered bites doing this.

Then Bam !!! … I found the tug I was looking for !!!

It was right next to the shoreline and the bend in it.

That's where the fish were !!!

Sure enough, on an outgoing tide we found some pretty dang good action at this slough and the gut running out from it, which produced keeper Reds and Trout for about 20 minutes or so. We strung both for awhile until Rex2 had his limit of Trout that he wanted and then we headed to the Hacienda de Texas Rattler around 9:15 am.

Guess what was for lunch ?

Flounder are starting to stage in the back bays.

Nice flounder strung by Steve Oceas of Austin Texas using a 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ Red/WildEye with a TEXAS WALKING SHRIMP™.

Steve said he caught 6 flounder and a lot trout using that set up.

Nice little red in first pic... sucks he broke his rod on it. I don't see another rod on his belt so was this a trip ending fish? That would really bite to have to walk a half a mile back to the boat/car to get another rod. Hope one of you had a back up! Ivan was game... he got the fish in and lure back! Kudo's to him!
