Wanted to test out some soft plastics obtained at the 43 Annual Houston Fishing Show on Saturday.

After getting all the "honey-do's" completed yesterday, I decided I was going fishin' even if there wasn't much daylight left in the day.

Did a quick wade from 5:00 pm to dusk with one of my son's friends, since my son was working.

Hit an area that held both shell reef and grass beds close by, so Tim hit the grass beds and I fished the reef.

Tide change was 4:00 pm to a high tide, but with a double tide in effect Sunday, there was no significant tidal movement.

About 5:30 pm Tim landed the only fish worthy of a pic and the honor of making the stringer.

The 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER Black/GoldEye rigged with a Chickenboy "Chicken-of-the C" 4" shrimp soft plastic is the combo that this nice flounder hit.

Notice how the U-Lock™ locking device on the TEXAS RATTLER™ holds the soft plastic in place from a vicious sharp-toothed flounder without tearing it like a conventional jighead locking device - like a wire or lead prong - would do to your soft plastic.

Not much bait activity as darkness closed in so we headed to house the since we had scratched the 'fishin' itch' for the day.

On the 3rd pic of the Flounder ,,, Look into the GOLD EYE on this pic and you can see how powerful the reflection capability is with the diamond cut glass eyes I use on the TEXAS RATTLER™ - you can see the anglers hand and camera taking the photograph .. now is that cool or what ? cool

Grinder 55: Since the loss of the Rockport Tide Station in Harvey, where do you get your tide info? The only tide info I found for Rockport said the high was "0", and the low was "-.1". Not much current flow with that small a tidal change. Wind will usually affect current and water level more. Right? IslandJim

Thanks, grinder 55: That's better than anything I had found. A guide at the Goose Island State Park ramp told me that there isn't any significant tide change in that area. I certainly didn't believe him. I know it's not often a big current, but it's always some.

Double high/low tide days do not have the significant velocity that will move a lot of water, especially during end of January, February and beginning of March.

2 more weeks and things will start to change for the better big time, ... even on double high/low tide days.
wink

Thought I'd point out to our wade anglers that March is an excellent time of year to catch a big flounder.

Here is your "Fishin' Tip for the Day" : The big'uns start invading our bays this time of year and now is a good time to go wade fishing and catch ya one.

I caught my biggest flounder back in 1999 over a shallow shell reef, and, ... yep - it was in March !!!

Yesterday morning, William Yardley and Tim Teal fished together from 9 am - 11 am today and did a little comparison of the durability of the eyes on the TEXAS RATTLER™ jigs vs. another rattling jig today over some shell reefs and the TEXAS RATTLER™ eyes held up to the knarly shell and the toothy trout .. pics courtesy of William Yardley.

Will was using the Chickenboy Whippin' Chicken Phantom Purple on a 1/8 oz. Pink/GoldEye TEXAS RATTLER™ and Tim was using a Chickenboy Whippin Chicken Pearl Chartruese on a competitors rattling jighead he was having some problems with his soft plastics slipping on him, so he came by my shop and I put my U-Lock™ on it for him.

Both launched from land using kayaks to go wade fish a shell reef in 20+ mph winds and Tim used his phone camera and Will used his waterproof camera.

Report from these young anglers that it was good trout bite until the tide stopped moving.

These young men - testing the durability of the color and eyes holding on the TEXAS RATTLER™ vs. another type rattling jighead on the market - tells you the rest of the story.

This may be the best pic ...

Will did a good job of taking those pics and word is that he is helping rebuild Rockport with his fiberglass work at the bait stands and his boat shop Blue Horizon Fiberglass

FISHING LOGS: Fishing Logs are priceless - if you take the time to start one. And, while you may eventually quit keeping a Fishing Log if you start one, the things you learn along the way will make you a better angler. Or you can learn from someone who has made that journey.

Yesterday started the Waxing Gibbous (def = humpbacked) moon phase. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. It lasts ~ 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous phase, the moon will rise in the east in mid-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset. The moon is then visible through most of the night sky setting before, during or just after the sunrise.

Tides ride with the moon and your tide runner trout will do the same. Trout are nocturnal and will stage themselves along shorelines to feed - especially at first light.

So the best trout bite will be an early morning trout bite for the next week with moonset times ranging from 6 am tomorrow - 9 am next Tuesday.

The "early birds" will get some trout ... and using a 1/4 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ Glow/RedEye jig to throw against the wind, rigged with a Pearl Gulp! was the ticket to a Texas Trout limit in these conditions.
cool

The TEXAS RATTLER ™ 1/8 oz. jig came through for me today ... I have been Hungry for some of my stuffed trout and it takes a good sized trout to have trout filets thick enough to make a cavity for the shrimp/crab stuffing.

1st trout strung today was as 23" and just what I was looking for. I rigged the 1/8 oz. TEXAS RATTLER™ with my trusty plum/chartreuse SW Bass Assassin and it didn't fail me.

Trout was caught over grass beds with very little tidal movement going on.

It wasn't long after 1st light that there was no bite.

So headed to my car and grabbed some breakfast.
cool

The GREAT thing about WadeFish Rockport© is the fact that NO BOAT is necessary to catch a limit of trout.

In fact, by the time most guides or boat anglers get to their 1st fishin' hole by boat, WadeFish Rockport© anglers are well on their way to a trout limit.

Fishin' at 1st light just makes life right, ... and like I said: "NO BOAT needed for trout limits."
