Not had a root canal but have had some pretty wild dental work in the last year.

Just keep your chin up; its over pretty fast and not as bad as you think. Easy to get all anxious and psych yourself out and it turns out to be not that big a deal.

Good luck brother!

Just take some visegrips and pull it out yourself. Pocket the $1,500 and go to bass pro.

I've had four. Only one was bad and that was with the older technology. The most recent was a walk in the park. And listen to the professional. You want to keep YOUR teeth in your head as long as possible. Even if it means root canals and crowns. If the tooth can be saved, that's the route to go.

There's a time and place for both, and after careful examination, I've talked plenty of people out of my treatment and into pulling their tooth and doing an implant (my wife and I work at different offices, so this would not be to my benefit or hers). But guess what, if my wife had a tooth that could be saved with a root canal or could be replaced with an implant, what do you think she'd choose? A root canal every time. So don't let guys who've never looked in your mouth, nor picked up a book even remotely related to dentistry try and tell you what's best for you. If you want a 2nd opinion go to a different dentist.

Regarding your original question, most of my patients are shocked at how well the procedure goes for them and end up being thankful for modern dentistry. It's come a long ways and that includes the techniques in root canal treatment.

Thank you - and thanks to everyone who weighed in.

Yeah my dentist sent me to an endodontist to get this done. If i am going to get a root canal done, i would rather get it done by a guy who does that procedure all day every day rather than a general dentist who does a couple a month. I am sure a regular dentist can do them fine, BUT ... seems like a no-brainer to me, all things being equal.

I have always heard horror stories about root canal procedures, but it sounds like they've gotten better at it over the years. I hope.

Thx guys...

Ask your dentist today what would be the approximate cost to get a full set of Steve Harvey's. I might be interested if the price is reasonable.

I had my first one last week. It was a two part procedure and I go back to finish it today. It was not any worse than getting a filling. I too went to an endo guy and you could tell it wasn't his first rodeo. Nothing to be fearful of...

I've had several root canals and an implant. The worst part of the procedure is when the doc has to stick the needle in your mouth to numb ya up....the rest is cake and you won't barely feel a thing.

I've had too many very very bad experiences with dentists and two root canals where they didn't numb me up right. No.

Pray to god you don't have red hair.
