Being built in 74 I am willing to bet money it's not screwed in and you will have to open the wall up. Have you tried replacing the washer? Please don't put a shark bite fitting in the wall either. You will have to chip the mortor out around the pipe going through the wall to get the old one out. Imagine a nut on the back side that is slightly bigger then The pipe going through the wall. I would take the stem out first and try replacing the washer. I'll check this out tonight.

PS-Don't forget to turn off the water to that line when you check for the washer

The washer is the best try. If it stops the drip, you might have to replace it more often than you want, but it is a lot better than replacing the faucet. If it doesn't screw into a fitting behind the wall, it means making a hole in the sheetrock inside the house. I've done these, and it is a real job. Most plumbers won't repair the sheetrock afterward either. Also, you might try a cone shaped washer as opposed to a flat one. I have had these stop the drip when a flat one won't because the outside of the seat inside the pipe is pitted, but the cone washer will bypass that problem.

Most plumbers won't repair the sheetrock afterward either. You could always call chickenman or WAWI for your drywall needs.

Ace hardware has the graphite packing in store. Stops water from leaking out of the handle. Easy to fix

Most of those have a stem packing nut. Did you tighten that?
If that won't do it, many times the packing and stem can be replaced, leaving the body in place.
