My dog is the same color as a deer. This is a diamond-backed water snake.

Like I said it is hard to say, I have only seen Diamond back Water snakes up close (10 feet), but I caught a cottonmouth - the stripes and coloration is similar on this one with a cottonmouth, but the head is what I am basing it on. The ridges above the eyes and the depression on top of the head. But no way can I be 100% sure, just my first thought when seeing the color and head. You look and decide.
