Out of all the hollow bodies I have, I'll fish a Booyah Pad Crasher 90%+ of the time...never touch/modify the hooks, use 50 or 65lb. braid, wait to feel the fish before puttin' the wood to 'em, and it's rare for me to lose one. +1

65 pound braid. 100% drag. Wait 2 seconds. Set the hook UP (which is typically the biggest reasoning for people missing frog fish).

frog bites vary, you have to learn from the bass when to set the hook.

frog bites vary, you have to learn from the bass when to set the hook. some hold onto it, some spit it quick, some never even touch the bait when they swirl. Senko is spot on

Well, FML. I suck at hollow frog fishing. I did a little better I guess, but still never got my hands on one. Got two half way to the boat without trailer hook. No bites for a while after that. Trailer hook picks up a good bit of scum. Missed one with trailer hook. Try again tomorrow

UPDATE... I think I got it figured out!!! I got the strike, waited, waited some more until it was just painful, and set the heck out of the hook. 2/3 on the Spro with LFT trailer.

I fish a frog...a lot. Still use the scum frog, with the hooks bent up some. Takes a good pair of pliers for this. If I pet that frog, and the hooks catch me a little, perfect. My rod is a 7' lews MH with 20 lb mono. I know many use braid, but I fell it takes some action away, it's all in the rhythm. With all the above in play, I catch the hell out of em. If I fish w some other rod, hookup ratio drops drastically. When you get a strike, make it a habit to point your tip at the strike, then set the hook like you have 500 yds of line out. Hope this helps. This. Bend the hooks up a little

In my experience, that's just the nature of the beast when frog fishing. You're going to have a lot of strikes that don't result in a fish - unless that fish comes up directly behind the bait and eats it, the chances of getting a solid hook in the fish are not great. I have so many fish hit it from the side, short strike it, etc...not to mention the grass mats they are coming through to try and kill it. Patience (don't set the hook until you feel the resistance) and a follow up bait (Senko) are my best advice also.
btw - despite the less than perfect catch rates it's still my favorite way to catch them!
