Soft plastic frogs, I have no issue. Hollow body frogs, KILL ME. For some reason I can never get a decent hookup on hollow bodies. I have tried a few different brands, most recently H2O Express. Those seem to suck pretty bad. On past frogs I've opened the hooks a little to help. The hook on the first one I tried to open broke, so I didn't try any of the others. Getting bites is never an issue. I do a lot of top water fishing and wait until I feel it before I set the hook. Any advice is appreciated

I replace my frog hooks with Trokar frog hooks.....get a nice hookset about 90% of the time. Biggest thing for me, aside from the hooks, is patience. I count to 3 and slam it home.

The worst were the old Scum Frogs. I bet I didn't land one in five. Fish would explode on it and knock it two feet out of the water but usually not get the hooks.

Ill tell you like i tell everyone else, rod tip up and when you feel em drop the tip and set the hook like a tx rig. I rarely miss as a matter of fact i dont remember the last time ive lost one. Ive used all different brands and never had to bend out the hook. I do cut the skirts short though

I fish a frog...a lot. Still use the scum frog, with the hooks bent up some. Takes a good pair of pliers for this. If I pet that frog, and the hooks catch me a little, perfect. My rod is a 7' lews MH with 20 lb mono. I know many use braid, but I fell it takes some action away, it's all in the rhythm. With all the above in play, I catch the hell out of em. If I fish w some other rod, hookup ratio drops drastically. When you get a strike, make it a habit to point your tip at the strike, then set the hook like you have 500 yds of line out. Hope this helps.

Wishin I was fishin! NOW, right now!

I always wait until I can feel the fish. Lots of short strikes on frogs. Also last year I started using a frog stinger hook that Lake Fork Tackle makes. Seems to help and does not get snagged up as much as I though it would (it does a little but not too bad). But it does help your hook up percentage.

I wish I knew the answer.

Last year I set the hook to fast on one and pulled it away from her, then I fired it right back to her and reeled up on it until I felt her and set the hook to late. That fish would have filled my limit and would have got me 1st place in a very tough fishing club tourney.

Are you using braid? If not that is the biggest problem.

Are you waiting until you feel the wight of the fish before swinging?

Currently using 30 lb power pro braid. Just bought 50 lb power pro, spro frogs, and LFT trailer hooks. Going to ranch tomorrow to put all these things to the test. Will post results tomorrow night. Will try frog first with no trailer and provide any differences I notice. This is frustrating. Do the spro hooks also need to be bent out a little or leave them as is?

Denny Braur taught me this at Amistad one day.
Bend the hooks out a little bit on the frog to where they are not level with the frogs back . It is amazing hook high your hook up percentages go up.
Alsom wait until you feel the pull to set the hook.

Retirement best job ever.

Have never bent out the hooks on a spro. Those gamakatsu ewg are designed to be in that particular frog. In fact, I know a pro who bends them in slightly in really heavy cover. I recommend don't touch the hooks. 50lb braid should help alot.

Out of all the hollow bodies I have, I'll fish a Booyah Pad Crasher 90%+ of the time...never touch/modify the hooks, use 50 or 65lb. braid, wait to feel the fish before puttin' the wood to 'em, and it's rare for me to lose one.
