This may be my favorite thread ever on TFF. Most of the replys give away the age of the writer/fisherman. Neat thread.

Zebco 33 for my first reel. And a Shimano Bantom Mag that I saved up mowing yards for baitcasters. Think my second baitcaster was a Ryobi.

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

Abu Garcia Abu Matic spin cast was my first reel. Abu Garcia 1500c was my first baitcaster, got it from my Dad on my 13th birthday in 1981. Still have it and it is still in great working order, although I don't use it. It sits on a display shelf along with a bunch of other great old reels.

My first was a zebco 33. First bait caster was a hand me down. Pictured here. It was a Shakespeare president 1980. With a lews rod. Wish I knew more about those reels

I'm 66. First reel was a Zebco 33. Graduated to a Ambassador 5000 when I was 8 years old.
Still have that reel,it is in a glass case atop my fireplace.
Sweet memories.

Probably a Ryoby?

My first reel, bought around 1954, was a green Shakespeare Model 1745 Spin Wonder Reel. It hung under the rod like a modern spinning reel, but was a closed-face model. Had to turn the handle backward 1/4 turn to cast and turn the front cover to adjust the drag. I caught a ton of fish with that reel. My first casting reel was an Ambassadeur 5000.
