Theoretically, the deck should be stronger, since you have removed 1/4" thick polyester resin soaked fiberglass and replaced it with 1/4" aluminum.....at least mine was stronger when done. It also makes for an easy access panel for running cables.

I ordered mine off of eBay. It's aluminum. One of the best mods I've done.

couldn't agree more. hardest part is talking yourself into making that cut in the deck. not sure if metal, plastic or fiberglass makes any difference as far as deck strength goes. we filled the cavity with expanding foam and carved out the pocket for the tray. that way the tray sits on a solid foundation and doesn't rely on the lip of the tray to hang it from the deck. it's rock solid. been in now for several years without a problem. also tied the drain into the piping that runs from the bow to the rear of the boat. fiberglassed the pocket to waterproof it before i set the tray in

My deck still feels the same after the install. It definitely doesn't feel soft. When I installed,I didn't have to cut thru a brace under the deck.If you don't have to cut thru a brace under the deck you shouldn't weaken the deck any.

I have the r&r design as well. It was the best value by far and fit my ultrex well.
