I had farmers and had two claims in about 18 months. Only claims I have ever made. They canceled me.
I have progressive now and they have been great to deal with.

Retirement best job ever.

I use Travelers. I had two claims last year one for the power head and another for hitting a stump with the lower unit. I could not be happier with the way they handled each claim.

This. Never ever, for any reason, get a non replacement cost policy. Sure you save a little money now, but down the road you will pay dearly and then some. Always go with a stated value policy and RCV. Actual cash value policies will take the boats stated value, then depreciate it for its age, plus some depending on the company. If at all possible never use a third party insurance company either. Insurance is just like anything else. You tend to get what you pay for.

I like to write boats through Progressive. They have a ton of options, RCV, Coverage for equipment. Propulsion plus is my favorite option, it replaces a lower unit from mechanical breakdown with, I believe, only a $250 deductible.

I know for HomeOnwers Allstate and Farmers are horrible

USAA is awesome, State Farm / Liberty Mutual are very good

You're going to hear good and bad stories about all insurance companies. Not cool to make blanket statements.

I deal with about 200 Homeowners claims per year. It's not a blanket statement, it is what I see daily.

Have been with Allstate for 30+ years. Not once have I ever had a problem with a boat repair. Heck one time the totaled the boat then gave it to me said they didn't need it.

Should have called Bob at Worldwide Marine Underwriters. He's an agent that would have prevented this on the front end. Your brother's agent screwed him over.

Actually Geico doesn't insure boats. They sub it out to a second party.

Why did they devalue the boat and motor? What am I missing?

Isn't the boat already devalued to $10,500 when you buy the policy,..you adjust the deductable from that..not reevaluate the value of the boat,..
I'd be standing on some sumbeeches desk..!!

That's the problem. He sent me a break down of the actual policy. And it has all the extras. And the value they insured it on. 4 month old policy. And when it was agreed on repairs. They took the total of repairs. And took out for deductible. Then took that total. And said they devalue the boat agreed current value. From 10,500$ to $6000 in 4 months. Basically what the repairs are. I think repairs are around 4500$

I had progressive on a 2004 Casita travel trailer that I bought new. Had a purchase price policy. It was stolen last year. They paid off my full purchase price plus ttl less $1000 deduct.
