I would NEVER fish a lake during a Classic. First off, I respect those guys and want each of them to have the same chance as the next guy. Spectators screw that up, especially for the most popular anglers or those in contention on the weekend. I have spectated twice in a TTBC. Once to take a Toyota employee from Cali out and another to take a camerawoman. Other than that, my boat stays on the trailer.
Like Mark said, there are a ton of fun things to do at the Classic besides being on the water. And Conroe really sux as a spectator lake, anyway. Bulkheads all around the lake make for some crazy chop and waves going every direction imaginable. With no consistency.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Don't think many on here would fish during the BMC, but we gotta remember that professional fishing is a tiny spectator sport and my guess is that half the people on the lake that weekend won't even know anything's going on. And half of the ones that do won't care.

So when BASS came to Texas last year there biggest BITCH was that anglers would fish there spots right after they left them or that night. There where several incidents where Pro's had anglers move in on them and fish saying "FREE WATER". This will only keep Top fishing organizations from coming to Texas.
These events are amazing to watch, you should take notes and then go back and see why the Pro's were fishing that spot. They have a different approach to cover and bottom conditions.
Good luck

Respect you for asking and wanting to know the best route to go. Most would just do what they want! I would say do not fish and just go enjoy the event. As fouz said that lake gets rough so you might not want to be out all day anyways. I might go follow so guys for a while but that lake eats my boat up when it gets a lot of traffic

I have been fishing on lakes a few times when there is a big tournament and I do like any other day and give everyone their space, be courteous, and expect the same. Never had any interest in following the pros around. I can get a better look at them on TV or YouTube some other time.

No fishing. I'd follow at a distance and observe. Maybe make a few waypoints for a later trip.

No way I would fish. If you are coming to town Huntsville State Park or Gibbons Creek could handle any fishing fix.
Spectating is all part of what they have to deal with. Keep your distance. Keep your electronics off. Bring your binoculars. Don't cut off water they are moving towards. Keep from making noise. Late March the weather could be one way or another. Conroe is one of the roughest lakes out there with so much bulkhead. It's like a washing machine even when the wind is low but boat traffic is up.
Should be a shallow water thing so they will be in the back of stuff and closer to the bank for the most part. Lake is small enough to that you can pick a part of the lake and some of them should come to you. If you want to follow one of the popular ones or leaders that should be a little crazy.
I will probably ride around the first day or maybe two. Attend the weigh in and expo.

Large crowds of spectator boats effect the outcome in some of these tournaments. Don't be another problem for the pros to have to deal with. Go see them at the dock in the morning. Many will be glad to talk with you. Go see them at the weigh ins. There will be tons of live coverage online and on TV. No way I am going out there in my boat.

But, as long as you stay a good binoculars distance away and don't run up around them, the elite guys are really used to the traffic. At least the ones I've fished with have said it is "normal" and they kinda ENJOY having boats following them....from a respectable distance. They are normal guys too. They like the motivation from fans.

90% of us on this forum would give way and put up the rods for the weekend, but I am telling you right now, there are gonna be some "royal jackwagons" on the water that weekend looking for attention and a way to get on TV. Mark my word!! You can bet your sweet bippie on it. Don't know how these guys keep from losing it with these yaahoos that follow them and will actually fish their spots after they leave. No respect.

I will go and watch also but there will not be any tackle or rods in my boat. I'm going to watch, that's all. It's like getting to sit on the field during a professional game. Go watch and have fun.
