Falcons - I have used them exclusively since '95 so I'm biased with no other input from other brands. The Caras would be a good choice for your budget. You can buy a more expensive rod, but the return on investment once you get past the $225 barrier is negligible in my opinion. Falcons are light, balanced, sensitive & I've never broken one from normal use in over 20 years of using them.

Probably all good rods but I agree with the above, I won't ever get one without atleast trying one out first. Not necessarily the actual rod but the same rod that maybe somebody else has so I can see what it feels like. Every manufacturers actions are a little different so one will more than likely match your feel better than the others. For me that's falcon. I do have a dobyns swimbait rod and an old allstar Carolina rod I use for frogs but falcon is my main one. I used to be real big on the one brand deal but there's really no point if someone builds a better rod of a certain action. They aren't paying you to use their stuff. I WISH THEY WERE haha

I love the phenix rods. Those are the blanks I build the majority of my rods on. The M2 and K2 are phenomenal. In that price range which phenix are you contemplating?

I was in the same situation 5 years ago. Went with Dobyns for nearly all applications that I use.
Have a couple of Kistlers I also use. One Kistler is the Frog and Slop rod. Great rod.

I Like Falcon Cara's. May try a Dobyn's soon. The ones that I have handled have felt nice. Never fished with them though.
I just grabbed A Daiwa 7' 6" Cronos and a 7' 1" Tatula to give them a try. I just hate to spend more than $250.00 on my rods. Picked up a couple of closeout Daiwa Zillions in 7.3:1 for the two new Daiwa rods.

I got All Star, Falcon, Berkley and BPS rods. Never broke one and eyes are still good. Oldest is 36 yrs. and the newest is 6 yrs. Got 2 Quantam 1310MG reels that I bought in 1990 that cast just as good as the day I bought'em and never been repaired. Don't think they make rod and reels as good as they used to and for sure they are much more expensive. Strictly my opinion.

Check out the warranty policy as well as in if you break it , as in break it with no questions asked and or break it under a defect issue. Dobyn's has a great replacement program and upgrade program, but you got to keep up with your receipt maybe its up to who you take it to i never have shown my receipt, but have for st croix.....

check out Kistler rods. G Loomis Blanks, very sensitive. Under $300, more like $150 on average. http://www.kistlerrods.com/

I wouldn't rule out Diawa or Irod. I switched most of my rods over to Tatulas this spring. For $150 you are getting a quality rod that competes with more expensive rods. If you want to spend more you can buy their more expensive models. I recently bought a couple Irod Genesis II rods in sizes that Diawa doesn't offer. I'm really impressed with those as well. I can't comment as much on sensitivity of IRODs because I bought one for Arigs and one for swimbaits. I haven't used them in bottom contact situations to truly compare but from what I can tell they are up there also.

I've used one of the earlier St Croix Legends (Sweeper Spinnerbait) full cork handle that was used for many years in the salt for snook and tarpon before using it in the freshwater. Lots of great rods out there but I will always be partial to St Croix. Too many good memories to change at this point

True story....all of my rods were stolen a few days before a tournament back in 2009. I went to Walmart and bought a Berkley Lightning rod, modified the cork handle to make it a split grip, I put a cu-200 Shimano greenie on it and had one of the best tournaments of my life. For a few days I thought to myself that I just got caught up in all of the hype....that a rod is a rod. The fish moved out deep and suspended before next tournament and I couldn't catch a cold. Oh they bit!!....but I couldn't get em in the boat.

I've used mainly Falcon rods for over 20 years with great success. Only had one break and they replaced it.
They are pretty hard to beat in my opinion.
