Sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find it in the search. I have a Helix 12 and there is an option for "GPS output" of 5hz or 10hz. Maybe it was killohertz. How do I decide which to use? I have a Humminbird external GPS puck mounted on the stern over the transducer.

the 10hz refreshes more than the 5hz. per second. the 10hz is about 10x per second and the 5hz is 5xper second

Just curious, is there anything special you have to do to an SD card to get it to record on a 1199? I have a 64 gig card that will not let me record, then my 32 gig, I recorded on it, loded it into Autocrats, then cleared my card, now my unit won't record on it. Seams like i remember doing that encrypt thing with one, one time, but couldn't figure out how to do it the other day on the water. The max card size you can use is 32 GB. FORMAT your card before using it each time. Encrypt is only for purchasing a single location Lakemaster map. I have a Helix 12 SI on the console. When I put a 32Gb SD card in, nothing happens and it doesn't seem to recognize it. My Lakemaster card works fine. I have several blank SD cards I tried and none work. I did format them. These are SDHC cards. On Autochart Live it only gives me the "internal" option to save to. If it matters, I have the screen capture thing turned to "hidden". Any ideas?

Oops, sorry. I want to record Autochart Live data to take to my computer and use Autochart Pro to make custom maps then use a Zerolines card to take it back to my Helix. Interestingly, I have a Helix 12 on the console and another on the bow. Neither recognizes the blank card. I'm starting to think it's the card. This is the card I am using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1EK3485487

First of all you cannot write Auto Chart Live to a blank memory card. It can only be written to the unit's memory or to a Zero Line card. Zero Line is the shoreline of bodies of water that the contours are contained within. What you can do with a blank memory card is record sonar logs with the RECORD function in the Snapshot view menu. That records all the unit data that the computer software Auto Chart or Auto Chart Pro will process into HD contour mapping. The two computer software products come with a Zero Line card and you can purchase it separately. Auto Chart Live is a version of the computer software.

Thanks for your help. I guess I'm confused on the difference between sonar data and autochart data. I want to create a custom contour map since I have found the Lakemaster map to be fairly inaccurate in my lake. I have looked for a tutorial on this but there's not much out there. Humminbird has youtube videos but they are really just advertisements. I have Autochart Pro with a zero lines card on order so hopefully that card will let me do this.

To collect data for AutoChart Pro you can use either the maps created with Auto Chart Live that is copied to a Zero Line card.
OR you can use the RECORD function to a blank memory card and let Auto Chart Pro create the contour map-then load that map to the Zero Line Card. A recording is just sonar/GPS data--not mapping of any kind.
I use that data to participate in the Navionics Sonar Charts program. Navionics creates the HD contour mapping FREE that is then downloaded to a Navionics+ or Navionics Hotmaps Platinum card to be viewed in the unit with the FishNChip setting.

This is what I was trying to do. I read in another forum this is a way you can use a blank SD card. My issue is that I cannot figure out how to record to the card. On autochart live the only option I have is "internal".

To do a sonar log recording, go to the View Menu and set the Snapshot and Recording to Visible.
In that view, push the MENU button. The first item listed is Start Recording.
BUT before you do that or any other data involving contour mapping, set the Depth Offset in the Setup Menu to eliminate the distance the transducer is below the surface. That is assuming you want the real water depth in relation to contours instead of the distance from the transducer to the bottom.
Only Record in 15-30 minute segments in case a recording is corrupted by a transducer impact, getting too shallow, or some other cause of an sudden loss of depth or normal depth reading.
During recording, you can use any of the views and will get a pop-up note occasionally stating Recording. In any view to stop recording, just push the Menu button and select Stop Recording. You always have to start a recording in the Snapshot and Recording View. Always Stop Recording too so it is saved on the card.
The data will be in a RECORD folder on the memory card.
You can play back recordings on the unit, and you can view the recordings on your computer with the third party HumViewer software.

That's exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks! As you record sonar logs, save them to a file on your computer or to a memory device for future use and viewing. I have over 200 sonar logs that I have done collecting data for the Navionics Sonar Charts program. I can use those with Auto Chart if I want. Mine are on a USB thumb drive sorted by bodies of water.

Ok, I've got a Helix5 DI/gps and I'm wanting a map card for it. I'll mainly be using it in DFW area lakes. Eagle mountain, ray Roberts, Joe pool etc. Whats a good card for my unit?

I have the Autochart PRO version. I am trying to figure out how to add satellite imagery on the surrounding land. Anyone know of a tutorial on this?
