Personally I use 6 lb mono with a fluoro leader for the hybrids. You want your drag to be really loose so they can run around and you can wear them out. Lighter line will always catch more fish.

Some say that braid is not good but i have never had any problem catching hybrids or any fish with it.. I sometimes use a 20 pound leader in the lake but when it broke off i just tied my sassy directly to the braid and caught this and ten other like it

Thanks a lot. This is the first time I ever found a school of hybrids like this. I was using a 6 lbs berkley and was having a hard time trying to figure out how tight or loose to put the drag. Had one near the shore but took off and the line snapped. Had another one where I guess the drag was too loose and took it all the way downstream and got tangled in a tree. Just was wondering if using braid, does it effect the bite? Was told before to only use monofilament. I caught all these using 10 pound braid yesterday no leader on a micro mite rod and reel combo LOL smallest was 13 inches . What i like about the braid is when you get hung on a log , 9 out of 10 times the hook on the jig bends and the lure comes loose. and i get my jig back. But that is my liking everyone can use what they like.

Only reason I like fluoro is that I think it sinks better with light lures.

For whatever reason Rowlett creek sandies are the only ones that I find are line shy. I seen people go fishless when fishing 8 lb or higher line. Line size does not seem to matter when I fish all the other creeks. RC is high this year so it may not matter.

Went out this morning north as far as I could walk from Firewheel bridge. Got puttered out around the pounds that are on the East side. Only caught one, did not see much action going on.
Wanting to try further up by the gun range, but cant figure out best way to get there.

I think there's a lot we just don't understand about line shyness. Fish hit a-rigs with metal wires attached. They don't mind two treble hooks on a rat-l-trap. Personally, I think it's more about how it affects the action of the lure. Light line on a light jig should give a more natural presentation. They don't seem to care when you are dropping slabs in deep water.

To me in 4pd line... Allows me to cast a light jig w/ accuracy to tight cover often than not where fish are holding and easy enough to break off an quickly re-tie! Anyways me catch ratio increased so I believe

I tried 4lb line this year and loved it! Then hooked on to the biggest hybrid I have ever hooked on to and it ran and ran then snapped my line. I will not use it again

I will not use it again lol, 4 lb line are for crappie and pan fish. RC water is a lot deeper this year, once a hybrid nose dive, a 4# line has no chance. Hybrids gill covers are razor sharp, you need a line that is strong enough so you can apply drag pressure to keep fish head up. IMHO, 10# braid with fluorocarbon leader 8 to 10 pound is min for hybrids?
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.
