Thanks for the info, Bandito.

Grainraiser, you're right about that. I ran into a guy trolling his pontoon up the creek today, and he said his graph was showing pockets that were up to 19 ft. deep. This is my first year trying to fish RC, so it's going to be an interesting learning curve.

The fishing will pick up once these fish get out of this really deep water and further upstream in to the shallower pockets. My guess is that this year the best fishing will be upstream of firewheel once they show up in big numbers.

Don't get discouraged, it is still pretty early and there hasn't been any rain to help with the water flow. The temperature is about right, but sandies move up when there is a good flow of water and the temperature in the creek is right, which it is. I was out today trying to get a feel for how the creek is this year, which is way different than last year. I don't think there should be any debate about whether they can get past the water breaks at Miller now. They will be able to, and have gotten past there. I was surprised however with MCC's report as I had expected them to be closer to the mouth at this point, but he knows way better than me where they should be.

Next time I plan on walking south from Firewheel on the east bank as far as possible to see what it looks like. I'd also like to check out the areas north of there to see what the water levels are like for the natural barrier areas like the rapids north of PGBT. If it is deep enough all the way to there, the creek gets rocky and clean up to 78, which I would think would be optimal for their spawning requirements.

Thanks to the guy on the kayak with the electronics for the report, and to the guy piloting the pontoon boat up the creek in the slowest possible manner, it was appreciated. 14ft at the first bend east, south of Miller is crazy.

I went out on Sunday too. I only heard of one guy catching Sand Bass below Miller. I walked out on the dam at Miller and it is broken apart nicely and there will be no issue of fish getting past there.

I went out to the 78 bridge below Lavon and saw several people fishing the rapids, didn't see any catches, but I was able to hook 2 nice ones further down stream in the eddies. It was back to back then nothing. Caught them on the tiny flukes Carey talked about on Sat.

Thanks for the 1 hour 45 min talk at BPS Carey. I'm looking forward to my trip with Nick in March. Till then, I will keep plugging away on my own and enjoy being outside in the amazing weather we have been having.

LFG...........

I was wrong about the dam. I walked over to the dam yesterday and Sunday. It is broken in a couple spots into a serpentine. Saw some action at dam and dropped a minnow. Only got a small LMB. Drove and parked at the bike path and walked over to the creek. LMB again while talking to a couple new faces.

I only see a few fish caught here and there and I try to hit the Miller Bridge every day on the way home. Been there for hours chatting with old timers that have hit the creek for decades. Guess the game will change this year with the depth of the water.

Yeah sorry about that. I specifically chose where I live to be able to walk to the creek in 5. My place is by any body of water. Preferably warm with women in bikinis but I will take the muddy N Texas lake; keeps me in good with the misses.

Hello fellers!

New guy here. Been watching this forum for awhile and figured I'd stop snooping and start contributing.

I've fished all around Ray Hubbard from banks usually around the bridges, Miller and 66, and live in Garland.

Anyways, been waiting for the sandbass run this year and it'll be my first time to actively seek it out. Want to thank you guys for all your experience and tips.

I went out by Miller/west side across Lakeside Park Sunday night and caught 4 crappie and a catfish from like 8pm - 2am. Then hit just south of Miller on RC, probably saw some you guys, Monday morning from 9-2pm. Got 1 tiny bass.

I was at Firewheel RC south about a week ago in the morning/afternoon and caught 2 catfish, 1 being about 24 inches.

Looking to hit RC again Thursday morning, but gusts of wind up to 40mph. Tomorrow would be better, but have to work to pay bills unfortunately. With the high temps heading toward 80 degrees, I hope that helps the run, but we do need more water.

Nice, I was at that exact place yesterday. You did much better than I and the other 50 people down there!
