Falling water does not seem to affect the fish this time of year. Not that I can tell. The drop in water temps moved them a little from last week.

It makes the fish pull out to points

The lake is now below full pool. I hope they close the gate soon!

Looks like they're still letting water out.

Looks like the forecast is for more than 3" of rain in the coming days - gates may be open a bit longer and I will still not be catching any fish!

Stronger current (which is atypical) and falling water temps. Typically, you will see the water temp fall when they open the gates. Dunno if it's due to a mixing effect or what, but I have seen surface temps drop as much as 10 degrees in one day after gates were opened, but that was 4 gates.

Maybe the falling water levels feels the same to bass as pulling the plug on bath tub to humans.. that's why I prefer showers.

One of the biggest factors to catching largemouth bass in current waters is "current breaks." Current breaks are any form of structure or cover that acts as a barrier to current. This can be things such as points pond dams, trees, stumps, docks, creek turns and just about anything else that you can find in the water. These things create an area for the bass to lounge in without fighting the pressure from the flowing water.

Florida Bass that don't have current regularly usually react in a negative manner when the release gates open. Throw that in with the moon being up during the day time, and post frontal conditions and you have a recipe for a tough bite last weekend.

In lakes that always have discernable current. Lake Fork does not.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, Lake Fork has a discernable current when the gates are open. The bass are still there, they're just not in their
daily non-current routine. I've had several days over the years where we caught bass with the gates open. Just gotta know where to look.

Ok, we can disagree. Lake Fork does not have discernable current on a regular basis. It has a little current when we have high winds, but nil most of the time compared to the current created when multiple gates are open and pulling water at a moderate to high rate. I know where to look and where the fish position when this happens, Jim. Getting more than a few bites is a rarity. Not saying fish can't be caught, but I'd be willing to bet you have had much better days and many more of them on Fork with the gates closed than with them open.

It's basic logic really...... Releasing water allows the grass to get watered and therefore grow. When the grass grows, the cows then graze. Everyone knows that the fish only bite when the cows are grazing.
