The life of any 2 stroke is oil and fuel. It doesnt matter if its a motorcycle or a boat. SO running cheap oil and cheap fuel will effect it through the years. You do not want to create a lean or rich situation. This can cause detonation or burn. I would recommend a quality oil and a premium fuel..

Recently Yamalube has been hard to get here in Tyler. Academy used to keep it on the shelves but for the last 3 months I have not been able to find any. I just put in my last gallon that I had and will be looking to get an Oil with a little bit more availability. I think I may start running Quicksilver Premium Plus also. That way when On Fork I just have to know where RedSkeeter's boat house is to get some more.. LOL

Serious question. I've seen comments like "Repairs cost 6k so to save some money or to be safe I'll run yamalube instead of the other cheaper oil" Now, are yall saying Yamaha's will only blow up when running the cheaper oil? Are we saying yamaha's won't blow while running yamalube? I think not and I don't believe the case well the chances are less likely running yamalube vs other oils." I think oil is oil. As long as it has TWC3 or whatever it is I think it is fine. However, I'm not a mechanic. I mean why are there so many choices of oil to buy if yamalube is recommended for yamaha's? I think its a sales pitch money thing.... Just my opinion. btw I run whatever Academy has on sale for $12.99 a gallon. I'd be pissed if I was trying to save repair costs by buying $30 a gallon Yamalube and my engine blew up anyways....

You always need to run yamaha ring free in every other tank of fuel. Our Mechanic says in a tech school they took apart a motor ran with without any additives, he said there was so much carbon build up it was scary. Same motor reassembled an a single dose of Ringfree later they took it apart again. He said the difference was amazing, it looked like a new motor on the inside. As far as the YamaLube he said to run it exclusively so I do. Why take a chance saving a few bucks when the results could be catastrophic
Talked to a few mechanics and they all say the same thing, yamalube is made from crude oil not synthetic and thats why it causes bad carbon deposits, use a synthetic or synthetic blend 2 stroke oil (brand does not matter as long as its TCW3) and you can cut out the carbon deposits and having to use the ring free, if you don't use ring free with yamalube your taking a big gamble.

So do you use ring free and Stabil? Or would the ring free take the place of Stabil? Use Stabil on every tank of gas.

Hey Weekender, You can get Yamalube 2M @ the Boat Center down on Hwy 155 just across the county line. They have it in bulk 55 gallon drums. I buy 4 gals at a time -$100 bucks. Here's what the bottle on Yamalube 2M says: Semi synthetic formula containing a special blend of additives to help protect against Ring Stick, Corrosion, varnish, & Wear in water cooled 2 stroke engines. I believe them. Had 4 Yamaha's over the last 22 years -a 1990 "Precision Blend" 150, a 2001 VMAX 150, a VMAX OX66 225, and now a 2008 HPDI 250 w/ 308 hours on it - only problem I had with any of them was fuel pump diaphrams in the OX66 (which I'm pretty sure wasn't oil related, LOL)- never run anything but Yamalube. I'll stick with it.

"as for the oil, the only difference is that if you have a warranty on your motor they will only honor it if you use Yamalube."
The above is not true. As long as your use the manufactures recommended type of oil, i.e. TCW3, in an engine, manufactures warranties will remain in effect.
My Yamaha powered boat came filled with Mercury Premium Plus when it was new and I have been running that same Mercury oil since then.

They cant deny a warranty claim unless it's not the manufactures recommended type TCW3 oil. It can be any brand. I've been using Merc Premium Plus and have had no problems.

So Stabil and Ring Free? Together? Every tank?
