I've always bought Yamalube for my 09 V-max. I hear some people say the cheap stuff is fine and others say only use Yamalube. Who's right?? Regardless I'll continue to buy Yamalube just wondering what yalls opinions are. And secondly, we threw a rod in our last 94 Mariner 150. We pretty well had it to the floor every where we went. Several people have told me that that was probably the ultimate cause of it. Do you guys run at max RPM all the time or do you lay off and cruise when fun fishing. First boat was $5,000. Second boat is $30,000. Wanna make sure that never happens again.

Yamaha HPDI's are designed to run at high RPM's so Ive been told, as for the oil, the only difference is that if you have a warranty on your motor they will only honor it if you use Yamalube. How they text the oil to see if it is Yamalube Idk. If everything is working right on your mariner there is no reason you cant run it wide open all the time, My mercury blew up because the oil pump has an aluminum shaving in it, how that happened is still a good question, so we took the oil system out and mixed the oil with the gas and problem was solved.

2 strokes are designed to run high rpms. I run yamalube in my vmax and will continue to do so as long as they are making it.

I'm out of warranty but have ran quick silver in my Yamaha for a few years and no problems. Had some tell me as long as it has the TCW3.

Stick with yamalube...that's all I run in my ox66

You always need to run yamaha ring free in every other tank of fuel. Our Mechanic says in a tech school they took apart a motor ran with without any additives, he said there was so much carbon build up it was scary. Same motor reassembled an a single dose of Ringfree later they took it apart again. He said the difference was amazing, it looked like a new motor on the inside. As far as the YamaLube he said to run it exclusively so I do. Why take a chance saving a few bucks when the results could be catastrophic

I've heard the same thing but at a min of 6K to fix I'll stay with yamalube for my vmax just to be safe! That's all the boat has ever had

OX66- I run Yamalube and ring free in every tank

Talked to a few mechanics and they all say the same thing, yamalube is made from crude oil not synthetic and thats why it causes bad carbon deposits, use a synthetic or synthetic blend 2 stroke oil (brand does not matter as long as its TCW3) and you can cut out the carbon deposits and having to use the ring free, if you don't use ring free with yamalube your taking a big gamble.

Ive heard that the Yamalube has an extra aditive in it that makes it better at protecting the engine. Perhaps thats what causes more carbon build up. But after my rod needle bearings/bearing cages let go in August '13 on my 115 Yammer I was advised to use only Yamalube (and use RingFree).

I've always run ring free in my gas.

Ring Free is substantially the same as Quickleen and Evinrude Carbon Guard. All pretty much the same stuff marketed by the manufacturers.

Seafoam works too. I use Quicklean in every 5 or 6 fillups of tanks and then Seafoam every 5 or 6 tanks. I only fill the tank every 4 or 5 trips. Looked through the spark plug hole about a month ago and it looked good.

As far as oil. It is cheap insurance as has been said but its also mostly a ruse by the manufacturer. Its the same literature that accompanies your car and truck although they aren't as successful at scaring the client into using it. Mercury, the motor I own, strongly recommends Optimax oil although back when I bought the motor they recommended regular Premium Plus. Opti oil isn't even rated TCW3.
I use Pennzoil Premium Plus. I'm not scared because I researched the oil and it was one of the recommended by some of the 2 cycle experts.

Since new my 01' 225 VMAX has run Yamalube(dirtiest as per plugs/O2 sensor), Citgo, Quicksilver Premium Plus and for the last several years Pennzoil Premium Plus. Engine runs darn near as good as day one. I always use Seafoam though.

If we are going to spend $15-20,000 or more on an engine it should be able to run on any of the quality oils like Qucksilver Premium Plus, Pennzoil Premium Plus, etc. If it won't our first question should be.. "Is that what we get for our money??"
