"Tietje told BassFan he acted upon information he received via a phone call from the operations manager of the Sweet Lake Land and Oil Co. on Friday evening alerting him that one of his competitors was seen accessing an area Thursday by navigating through Sweet Lake and an adjoining canal. Its an area Tietje knew to be private, but he did not personally see Kernan access it.

Being the local guy, if it were open to public, I promise Id be the first one in it, he said.

Tietje then contacted Weldon with the information he was given and let it go from there."

Peter I can't provide any more than I stood 5 feet from Mike in his living room and was told that's how it went down and saw the case the he outlined.

If Mike was not such a class act, I'd suggest a bunch of us show up and follow this Dennis character around - kind of go all Happy Gilmore on him...
While tempting, it would reflect poorly on Mike.

Let me see if I got this straight.......

Someone told someone else that something was going on. Then, someone told somebody to do something that appears to possibly benefit that someone. That someone that had someone do something risked their current job, and possibly risked the integrity of an entire company or parent company in the industry to benefit someone in what seems to have turned out to really be something? Why would someone get in the middle of something for someone else, and risk everything including the possibility of everyone knowing someone did something completely wrong for someone else.

Well, after all that I guess I just hope someone who supports somebody will decide to support someone else, and that also somebody might consider shtcanning someone that might have brought something upon them and someone else they shouldn't have. Something really stinks, and I think it is someone and a supporter of someone...

I'm not sure I follow your use of pronouns, Emory, but I agree, something stinks and I'm sure there will be changes for a few of the people involved, whether were foreseen at the time of the situation or not.

I don't know kernan but I do follow and cheer for him as he is from DFW.

The guys handled this situation in way that was amazing! Class act..he may have just jumped to my favorite elite. He didnt let it phase him and stayed positive. Great things will come from this, cheers to an awesome year ahead in the elites Mike!

Great recap, ED! Being from that area I can pretty well guaranteeeeee that this is THE END. Think Edwin Edwards. In a better world, BASS would polygraph the protester as to exactly when he received the info he passed on to BASS officials. But that won't happen b/c BASS just wants this mess to fade away.

A sponsor of the protestor posting an area of a competing angler, on the morning of Day 2, and the protesting angler knew nothing of this until filing his protest?

Lose-e-Anna politics, front and center.

Totally agree. I have always regarded the BASS Elites as the "Holy Grail" if you will both in terms of capability, conduct, and professionalism. BASS tournaments has and should always be the model to which we all whether competing or not should aspire to.

To learn that Mr. Kernan was DQ'ed based on here-say is troubling. In my opinion he (in this case) or any other angler should have been allowed to continue until a more through investigation of fact was complete. Who know he could have placed higher if allowed to continue. They should then make their adjustments at the conclusion of the investigation.

Kudos to Kernan and best of luck. When you get to this level of competition you have to always have to keep the larger picture in mind. While unfortunate I'm sure this will be a learning experience for BASS as well and look forward to seeing Kernan in the Classic next year. thumb

Mike, you are a better man than I. I can't say I would have handled this situation with nearly as level of a head as you did.

Seems like they should have let Kernan finish the tournament and then sit down and listen to both sides afterwards and take the proper time to investigate and then come to a decision. All a bit amateurish by BASS.

5) The man posting signs Friday morning was wearing a Grosse Savanne t-shirt.

Conspiracy.

They do happen a lot more often than many like to believe.

It's no longer a theory when it is fact.

We at Moritz Chevrolet have been following this situation all week as well and I can't tell you how happy I was this morning to hear that Mike won his appeal, that was awesome news. Regardless of the outcome we had Mike's back 100% and are extremely proud of the way he handled the whole deal. There's no doubt that we made the right decision to add Mike to the Moritz Team he's representing us well and we look forward his continued success!!!

Congratulations Mike on the ruling... you definately have some new followers rooting you on. Very classy how you handled everything.

For what's it's worth I talked with Chris at the shop during the event and I sent him some pictures of the bruise I put on the boat last weekend. He was very helpful. It's five hours away but after talking with him and seeing how this got handled you have a new customer.

Good Luck...
