I tried yesterday. Fished 3 hours standing timber and brush piles. No takers. Water temp was 44-45. Last spring when the water temp hit 58-59 i started catching them in 8 to 12 feet.

I am sure some white crappie are there now, never said they wouldn't be there but, I am waiting on that magic number. Another cold front will push them out of the shallows until the water warms again.

If you taget black crappie, now is the time on most lakes for the big females! Now! Right now!

57 is my number also....
All the fish I caught were in 15 FOW slow trolling and all females.
No sniffs in shallows as temps are 54 at best.

Maybe next week!

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

57 is a good number. We caught ours at fork crappiemasters last March in 54.5. I'd hang out in front of Craigs house to know for sure. That guy knows things us average guys just hope to know.

Went last night, water temp was around 47... (didn't personally check, overheard a nearby local that keeps tabs on this sort of thing)...there were 20 something folks out fishing on the rocks...everyone fishing 2 foot deep 2 or 3 foot off the bank...I didn't get there in time to secure a primo spot and only caught a couple, bite was slow...but, the primo spot folks were catching a dozen or so per person. Most of the numbers came on minnows. Our group ended up with 10 total, jigs only. Hope this info helps.

Fished an hour on my way home yesterday. Dont know water temp but a week ago it was 47. Fishing Lake palestine and level is two feet over the spillway and very muddy still. Got five whites and one black in 5-8 fow. Five females, 1 male. All whites weighed 1-4 to 1-9. Caught on fightin farmer thump buddy and east texas killer creature bait on 1/32 pink jig head. Have caught a few fish here and there in that same area for last three weeks and have seen a few really nice stringers on the occaisional warm day when the water would start to clear. Almost all of them were white crappie. I'm not real good at this yet so I would imagine if someone really knew what they are doing they could probably whip up on them pretty good.

Yes white crappie are being caught in less than 2fow with jigs and minnows. Water temps are still below 50 degrees and they are slammimg jigs and minnows. Night bite may be a little better, but there is still plenty daylight action. Waiting on water temp is a big mistake this year. So the crappie say...

Didn't catch a white crappie shallow but I saw one in the clear water at PK. I hung up in a cedar tree someone had thrown in a small cove and he darted out as I brought my boat up to dislodge the jig. Was in maybe 3 feet of water. You can clearly see about 10 feet deep in Pk right now.

The water temp in that cove was 59.
