Well these seemed to do the trick for a friend this week. Said he killed them with this. Well not really killed them....lol
thought I would share the pattern
hook 8 tiemco or mustard
thread olive
eyes small bead chain
tail a little fine krystal flash and olive marabou
Body pearl tinsel
hackle from a jungle [censored] saddle (but any soft webby hackle will do)
head olive SLF dubbing

those are nice flies and no doubt brim getters, but I always thought a briminator was a fly tied with the church window feather from a pheasant; the entire fly material other than the hook, thread, and beadchain came from that feather. I could be wrong-p-

I was taught that the originator, Tony Guzman, used a regular India hen feather- he stripped marabou from side for the tail and used tip in for collar. Dubbing can be any material. That said, like you, I like using pheasant as well- it makes for a longer buggy collar.

By the way, there are some of us, like myself, that aspire to be a great tier like yourself some day. So every time you come up with these exotic feathers like jungle ***, badger ***, etc I go searching the internet. I sure hope you don't tie with big foot neck hair or Loch Nest monster underbelly scales, LOL!!!

Like Pearow my understanding is that the original was tied with one feather a Church window Pheasant for the hackle and a pinch of fluff for the tail the rest of the fluff used for dubbing for the body.
I think because the tail is so short is one reason why the original is so successful, brim sometimes nip at the fly and the short tail is thier undoing. Being a one feather original any color feather tied as the original keeps it a Briminator. Anything else makes it a varient!

I stand corrected.
When Colby Sorrells first introduced our tying group to this fly he told us how to make it with India hen feathers. I might have imagined that was Tony's original or I simply remember it that way. But it works with the pheasant especially if you pull the silver grey fluff to create the tail. I looks sort of minnow like or bug like depending upon what you want to fish that day.

well, Tony created the perfect east Texas brim fly; you can tie them chubby or skinney with the size of the bradchain determining the depth you want to fish. I have also caught crappie, yellow bass, and white bass on it in the original church window pattern. I think the briminator and the cap spider are truly Texas flies.-p-
