I've got a Onix 10 combo unit with the 360 imaging. I upgraded the Onix to the latest version of the software and now it can't recognize my 360. Tried updating the 360 but the update fails every time.
Any ideas?

Any ideas? Did you use the update that came with the zip file for the 2.0 update?

Ok. When you power up the 360 listen for it to index itself. So turn the power on and get close to the transducer and you should hear a low humming and whirring. After that, try to the deploy it by hand using the buttons on the top. I had one of them die the same day I updated a unit and it had nothing to do with the update at all. If you have power to it, save all your settings to a SD card and restore defaults on the Onix. Then reboot the system and see if the 360 will show up. The first time after I updated to 2.0 it took about 3 minutes for the Onix to find the 360.

I've been thinking about getting a 998c hd si unit. Anybody have any opinions on this unit? Haven't seen any bad reviews to speak of but on the description of it on the humminbird website, it says something about an optional transducer? Does the standard unit come with traditional 2d sonar or is it just a side imaging unit and the optional transducer is for 2d? Thanks in advance.

The 998c HD SI Combo is discontinued and replaced by the 999ci HD SI Combo. It comes with a single transducer that does Side Imaging, Down Imaging, 2D sonar and temp. The note in the specs refers to a transducer change to get 2D sonar at 4000 watts for very deep water. Read the specs again.

I agree. Imaging will show you if the returns are fish or brush/trees. Add FishID to show you fish you want to target. This: is what this is: To me, that image says, "Buy a chart with Down Imaging". help me understand what i'm seeing, please

I saw it in here somewhere but now can't seem to locate it. I have a new 999SI installed and was looking for the recommended starting settings for dummies. I fish a mainly muddy bottom lake if that makes a difference. I want to find brush piles with Side scan and then go over them with Down scan and see the fish they are holding!

The unit comes with the recommended starting settings. Defaults. As far as brush piles with Imaging, a brush pile is not a large subject, it is a bunch of small subjects that imaging will show individually. If the parts are not large enough to reflect enough sonar pulses, you won't see them displayed. You have to compare brush parts to small fish. The smaller the fish, the less likely Imaging will show them since they won't be represented by many screen pixels. This is a brush/log/stump pile that Imaging can show clearly--it's big stuff: This is a tree on top of one of those "brush piles"
