So...EXACTLY HOW IS ACADEMY CHEAPER? When I bought my Steez 100XS EVERYBODY WAS $599. Bass pro couldn't get it. Tackle warehouse was "out of stock", so academy got the sale, all beit, "online"! And it was still $600. Actually it was $647 shipped. NOT CHEAPER!

Now, cheaper would have been buying a Megabass version of it from some online place for less than $500. Live and learn. EVERY MAJOR DEALER SUCKS! They are all full MSRP.

I will try APT some time. But I've been giving almost all my money to Southwest Service for rods, reels, line, and some baits. TW gets some for line and baits.

But, BPS and academy can eat it.

Thankfully , I have Brannan's Bass Shop near me. For tackle, you could combine Academy and Bass Pro and they'd still come up short of Brannan's.

Brannan's Bass Shop is my first choice I buy 75% or more of my tackle from them. Great service and best prices on in store purchases.

$7.99 for a bag of Senkos at Bass Pro.

$6.00 for the same bag at Academy.

Nuff said.

Maybe a better question might be, "Where do you buy your outboard oil?"

If you want cheapest you don't buy at BPS or LBD.

Therein lies the problem with Academy. It seems like whether it is hunting stuff, ammo, clothing, or fishing tackle, they never have the exact stuff I'm looking for. BPS seems to have a better price if you buy the BPS Brand of whatever it is you want, but if you are looking for a specific brand, if Academy has it, it's usually cheaper there. Don't even get me started if you throw Gander Mountain in the equation. I almost never stop there unless it's an after thought when I am at my son's place.
A Cabella's is coming to H town soon, but I expect it is going to be salt water oriented as it will be located on 45 heading toward Galveston.

I like to support local establishments when I can. I try to stop by Barlow's Tackle in Richardson once a month (on weekdays). They carry plastics that aren't available at other places (including online) I've ordered from their online website numerous times with prompt delivery.

Academy seems to be seasonal. In the late fall/early winter it really shrinks down. That being said, if you want selection, knowledge & great service, go to Anglers Pro Tackle. It's nice to see Deps & Iovino in a local store.

Agreed with those talking about Academy lacking in selection. Seems like it's gotten worse over the last year or two. BPS might be a little pricier, but what I save in gas money from not having to drive to Academy, then somewhere else because they don't have what I'm looking for makes up for the difference.
