I hear what you're saying, Matt. Back when I made the switch from bass to crappie, some of the regulars in this forum were so obnoxious that I did most of my crappie learning elsewhere. Any time you have three or more people, there will be politics and cliques. These days, I just read what I want to read and don't worry too much about the rest of it. There are some great people here, and I've definitely enjoyed meeting some in person.

Think of what you missed during those early learning years by allowing a few "obnoxious" regulars chase you away. frown

Then think what a tremendous forum this would be if all the lurkers would just make one post a month, giving of their knowledge and experience to the members of the forum!

Yes, there will be dissension and yes, there are a few cyber-bullies here, you will find that in any popular forum. The moderators could do more to control this but they choose not to. But that should not stop anybody from making posts in the forum to add their views and experiences.

Just ignore those disliked and help make the forum more positive, helping other anglers learn how to be better at catching crappie. Or be funny and help others smile. roflmao

I'm sure there are a few that don't like my attitude nor read my posts. But I would hope that dislike of one or even a few persons would not stop anybody from adding their views and experience to the forum, making it better for all of us.

It would be so nice if everyone who reads this forum would make a post or two each month, giving their experience about catching crappie.

Let's try to overtake the Bass Forum in number of posts and participating members of the forum. Surely crappie anglers are as dedicated as bass anglers. roflmao

I've always had a tendency to go my own way and do my own thing, anyway, so I was going to spend a lot of time on the water learning on my own, anyway. And finding the real jewels of information here can be challenging anyway, until you learn which of the posters to watch closely.

Agreed. I'm always surprised when I glance at just how many people are reading this forum, then look at how few are actually posting.

I learned the effectivness of downsizing and using a finesse approach from Ketchn and friends. Slow presentation, very light sensitive rods, 4-6 lb hi-vis line and 1/32 or 1/48 oz jigs have made a huge difference for me. Proofs in the freezer. fish

You are probably right about this, but I buck that thinking anyway. I think part of that goes back to my bass tournament days when I was always doing what I thought would catch the most fish, and not what I'd rather be doing. Now, as long as I can catch enough fish to satisfy myself, I do it the way I want to do it, and that includes using tackle that's heftier than most crappie fishermen seem to prefer.

Very well said.

A lot
By reading and rereading the info that so many anglers post, I think 2014 is going to be a better year for me.
I read many tips that were the same , slightly . or vastly different than what I use.the reasons given made a lot of sense to me. I ralized I was to locked into what I thougth I knew. I plan to try the tips I have picked up I
thank all of you who have shared their style.

I hear you about boat fishing. Got my first boat in 2011. I always hated lake fishing because I could never tell if they were biting and fishing from the bank can be brutal. What I discovered was that with a cheap fish finder lake fishing is really good most of the time, unlike the bank when spring is basically it.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I have been crappie fishing for about 3 years and Ive read endless amounts of crappie info online, bought expensive crappie DVD's, and spent countless hours combing through the forum for the latest and greatest tips. Ive tried just about all of them too! But in 2014, I learned that even though your fishing for the same ol' crappies every lake is different. What may work on Fork or Palestine may not work on LL or RayBob. Don't be afraid to try new techniques and/or new locations. Fishing is suppose to be fun! So if you are gonna get PO'd because you dont limit out on every trip just stay home.

Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21:5,6)
