Fish till I drop -- what type of hook are you having problems getting snagged on rocks with? are you fishing from shore or boat or yak? from shore, you gotta plan on losing alot of stuff since you cant float over top of your bait and get it unstuck.

I do pretty well with the trokar wacky hooks on LA... I skip wacky rigs under docks on a light spinning rod. I fish more open areas with a t-rig on a MH bait caster (but mostly because I am not quite as savvy at casting a bait caster.)

There are times when they will hit a wacky rig better, or a t-rig better. You gotta experiment and see what works smile

Colorado Transplant, I've been using Octopus style hooks for wacky rigs. I've been using a Gamme wacky hook, which is an octopus hook with a weed guard. Problem with it is that the weed guard is flimsy and stays open most of the time. I recently ordered some VCM wacky hooks without a weed guard and will see if I have the same problems with them in rocks. I fish from a boat and troll back over it when I'm hung, can get it loose most of the time, but it takes time away from fishing. It's no big deal. I see some other wacky hooks that appear to have better weed guards and I may try some of them when I make future orders from Tackle Warehouse or BPS. I like to skip docks too, and the weed guard on the Gamme hook ALWAYS comes open when I skip. I hesitate to skip docks because hang-ups are hard for me to avoid. I guess the bottom line is that I'll continue throwing a wacky rigged senko style lure more often than a Tx rigged senko, because I like the action better on a wacky worm. Eventually, I'll get the hook thing worked out. Thanks for your reply and help.

I fish it weedless and weightless most of the time, seldom wacky, and once in awhile on a splitshot rig.

I will let you form your own opinion about the VMC hooks, but I think those are the worst!! I had a terrible time with missed hooksets with those, and I think there was a pretty extensive negative thread on the austin forum about those hooks and their weedguards. I recommend the trokar ones -- and I have also heard good things about the owner ones as well.

I LOVE wacky ridding senkos and skipping them under docks with a spinning rod. You can get it into places that other fisherman do not get a lure

As much as them things cost....here's my course of action...

1) Texas rigged through head, catch a fish, head is torn.

2) Texas rigged through tail, catch a fish, tail is torn.

3) wacky rigged, catch a fish, then put on new worm.

Three fish per worm, cuts my costs a lot.

Never really fished wacky rig much until I caught my first bass on it in Feb this year. Since then about 70% to 80% of my bass have been caught on the wacky rig senko!
