Im NOT an OBAMA fan. But please don't blame him for you not managing your finances correctly. If you do that then you sound just like him when he was blaming BUSH for his mistakes. The biggest mistakes people make is fooling themselves into buying something they can't afford. ONE day they will offer 20 year financing on all boats that cost 75 grand or more. There will be some dummy that makes 70 grand a year think to himself. I CAN AFFORD THAT!!!! I take that back there will be more than just one guy cause there is a sucker born ever day. But in the end we all take the hit.
I'm trying to figure out how anyone is blaming Obama for managing my finances? I haven't seen anyone in this thread that has said they couldn't sell it because they owe more than it's worth.

The under 20k market is really good right now. Good in shape older boats are going for premiums
I agree, just bought one and I'll be happier than the other guys when it's paid off in a couple of years

LOL TXAGFISHER How many times in your life have you met someone that's willing to own up to mismanaging their money? They will blame whoever they have to in order to save face. they will say thing like I blame obama or the economy isn't as good as obama said it is. The economy is in good shape for some people and its in bad shape for others. It all depends how you managed your money and what you do with it. If someone went and bought a 65,000 dollar bass boat in july because they can afford it this year. 2015 rolls around and all of a sudden they cant afford it. DO you honestly think they tell everyone I made a dumba-- purchase? I use boat example because this is tff but this happens all the time with vehicle purchases.

I tell ya 10-yrs ago I got in a spot owning 2- boats, 1-2yrs old and the other brand new starting August of 04. The 2-yro boat hit the market that month, didn't sell until May the following yr. ouch, 2- standard payments-2 insurance payments, IMO trying to sell a boat new or used this time of year, is hard to do. The holidays are upon us, G.I. joe with the kungfu grip has first call come Christmas not a new boat in most case's.
My ZX225 is 10 now, she's in great shape, thanks to the no rot design and build of todays modern marvals. If my motor takes a dump I'll repower for a substantial savings over a new rig--- stupid is as stupid does.... I ain't giving any dealer the satisfaction of me signing on the dotted line of a long-long time to come. If I live that long...God willing.

Most of what y'all are saying is true. I'm moving on to a new model and I'm really low on my older boat. I'm not getting the new one till I sell the older one. I've done this often and never had such problems. I would understand if I was to high on my used boat, but I see same year boats for 5-7k more. I guess I'll just be patient and hold on to her for a while. Thanks for y'all's inputs

Who knows? Heck, I DO know that there's very few people like myself. I bought a brand new Ranger with a Merc XR-4 in 1980. To this day I haven't been able to wear it out. The boat's a good one, but I sure wouldn't buy another Merc. Not because they don't make a good product now, it's just that they would not make mine right (when it was still new). I'm now wanting to upgrade, but with an Evinrude equipped boat (a clean one-owner about 5 years old). I guess Marty must have given you a ride to the dealership in the old Delorean to get that XR-4 in 1980 brand new????

I just sold my Nitro as soon as it hit the market. It may be that Nitro's price point is a lot lower than other brands. 20k cheaper to buy, 20k cheaper to sell.

And you probably won't see that. But that doesn't mean it isn't going on. Its obvious that some who are selling are upside down an looking for a bailout.

Reply for 90 5.0: Good catch. It's good to see someone actually reads these things. The year was 1990, sorry. Yes, time flies even without adding 10 years to it. Who is Marty? The guy that lives across the street that has a DeLorean in his garage is Mike.

Just my Several reasons: - Economy is not good now, people are worried about money (jobs/stocks) and their future - End of summer season, casual/recreational fisherman is really not thinking about buying a rig and/or fishing now - Boat prices are high in overall average (as compared to years gone by) - Low water and/or wildly fluctuating water levels in lakes

A big issue I see is a lot of guys are asking too much for used boats, especially given the time of year. I was recently in the market for a used Nitro and compiled this list of basically every Nitro for sale in the country as of a few weeks ago. (Note: These were ask prices, I would expect most boats to sell 5-10% below ask assuming they were priced rationally to begin with) The section labeled "high" were the highest prices I found, the section labeled "low" were the lowest prices I found, and the section labeled "average" were (No surprise) the average. The grey area is the most meaningful on the chart. Naturally every boat has add on's etc... that can influence price, but I can tell you there are very few truly "standard" boats out there. Most have at least a couple grand in basic upgrades. The average price reflects about 3K in upgrades from a truly standard model. (Remember banks generally won't loan you money for upgrades that are not permanently fixed the boat). Perhaps most interestingly of all is the average annual depreciation! Hopefully this helps a few of you guys buying or selling! On a personal side note, I did all that work on Nitro's and ended up finding a near mint 2013 Skeeter TZX 190 with less than 20 hours that I picked up at one heck of deal. Good luck guys!

There was a change on the Cougar FTD in 2012. Old style vs new style, That's why I bought a 2012. It took me 4 months to sell my old cougar but just keep the faith it will sell, I think I had 10k views on tff but someone from BCB forum bought it from out of state. I would put it on BBC if you hadn't already. just my 2 cents.

The answer is simple. Because they cost as much as a car!!!! The price of a new loaded boat that one of the Bassmasters would take to a tournament is staggering. Since people pay that price, all the other boats are too expensive. If noone would buy a boat unless the prices tumbled, they would tumble. That ain't likely. The dealers realize they can make the same money and sell fewer boats by higher margins. A new boat is insanely high. I bought each of my first 3 bass boats new, and my last two boats were bought used. My 1987 Ranger 373V Bassmaster Classic cost me $18250 new. My 1989 F-150 Supercab that had every option possible except 4WD cost me $14250 new, so the price of a boat even then was 30% higher than a vehicle. New boats may be 40% higher now, but that is top of the line to top of the line prices, or close.

i dont get why you get a 50k new boat then use it for 2 years with 250 hours on the motor and want to sell it for 43k... but as lee says Just my Several reasons: - Economy is not good now, people are worried about money (jobs/stocks) and their future - End of summer season, casual/recreational fisherman is really not thinking about buying a rig and/or fishing now - Boat prices are high in overall average (as compared to years gone by) - Low water and/or wildly fluctuating water levels in lakes when buying my boat i started with a 15k budget and i realized that 15k does not buy you a good motor and all the fancy sonars and trolling motors in aluminum. so you need to go the high end brands like g3, xpress or ranger. I ended up with a new ranger aluminum.. so happy with it.
