Just 2 weeks ago they got pounded with rain and I read somewhere that it was 4-5" worth. The lake was up when I was there last week and water temps were 94 at launch and 101 at take out. I also saw floating fish but I saw several shad, cats and bass. I'm not going to say it was due to that rain....but the floaters I saw were pretty fresh and would possibly about the same time as that rain.

I also saw that most of the green exposed grass I had found the month prior was brown and dead.....so possibly a chemical was sprayed?

I found plenty of green grass, did find some dead grass. Some sort of pepper grass that was also very green. I found a few groups of fish shallow, but struggled after 9am. Not being able to catch fish 15-25 ft hurt me. Lake cleared out by 11am

This post perfectly reflects the membership at TFF.

100 dead bass averaging 4 pounds.

10 dead bass.

Sounds like post tournament mortality from a local bass club..?

All dead fish were on the south end of the lake. North end would have been more convincing. Wind's been out of the S for how long, now?

The fish are so shallow they're stressed from the 91 deg water temp and fishing pressure.

'They' must've sprayed the "grass" again. I saw coves. Lots of recently dead, brown 'grass'.

Not a fish in sight and no sign of life. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

That sucks. I miss the Fayette of the 80's and 90's.

Was a wonderful lake with tons of grass and big healthy fat fish everywhere.

LOL..Fouz if that was directed at me you can suck it! wink

I only offered what I saw. Was it 100 fish? Nope....I'd say it was 20 fish total in assorted species. And yes there is still green grass out deeper, however several patches of the shallow grass I had found earlier were dead. Did they spray it? I have no idea. Was it due to the rain? I have no idea. I'm pretty sure I stated that.

As far as I know someone went and took a big 'ol toxic dump that upset the ph and killed off only fish 10lbs and above....

I have no idea what killed them but I have fished it 3 times in the last month and Saturday there were a lot of dead reeds & bulrush grass. There were a few dead bass and tilapia floating in with the dead plants. Who knows, maybe the ones that survive will turn into double digit bass...

It does not help either to have all the Tilapia fisherman cast netting the hell out of em either. TPWD is going to have to do something about these guys, or someone is going to get killed out there. Game Warden caught one of the Cast netters with 30 slot fish in the bottom of their Ice chest.............They are killing a great lake

rolfmao It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, Chris. Just an observation of a topic that meanders with lots of different views/opinions on what happened, how many, etc. Like so many other threads. I'd say that the profound rainfall you mention could be the culprit. And that is the same thing that caused the fish kill last year. One thing I will say is I seriously doubt it has anything to do with water temps. Power plant lakes resident fish populations are used to it. I've caught lots of fish out of Monticello and Fayatte in the dead of summer with water temps over 100 degrees.

I been saying the EXACT same thing for a while now. I mentioned something along these lines a while back and almost got burned at the stake!!
