I was out on Fayette yesterday and must have saw 100 3-5lb LMB floating dead. Outwardly I couldn't see any sign of damage. The water temp was around 91. I'm new to Texas so I have no idea what might have caused it. Anyone have any ideas?

Haven't had enough recent rainfall to cause a fish kill like last September. And in that one, there were 10,000+ of all species. Not just largemouth bass. Call the Lower Colorado River Authority and report it.

sounds like poor fish care management from a local tournament...

Glad to be here. They were pretty concentrated on the south end of the lake. Pretty far from the nearest launch, so I wouldn't think it was a local tourney.

The wind could have grouped them in a particular area if they were floating.

Not likely. Fayette has a slot limit of 14"-24" and all the fish he saw would have been in the slot.

I was there too on Sunday. I Saw probably a dozen dead bass. My philosphy is they are mostly shallow right now, which is unusual. High water temps and high temps are stressing them out. Along with fishing pressure.

Other then that how was the fishing?

I stand corrected LOL.....I know the water temps are high...but I have a hard time believing that 100ish bass would die rather then retreating to deeper water.

Either Dissolved Oxygen crash (other species would be effected as well) or Largemouth Bass Virus LMBV

Fishing was fairly slow for us. We finally got on them later in the morning in 12-15. We were catching fish next to dead fish. The forecast of 2mph out of the south turned into 15mph+ out of the south which compounded things. Biggest of the day was a 6er.

They must have sprayed the grass recently, all the shallow coves that had grass looked like [censored] with dirty water and dead brown grass. Oxygen levels probably plummeted and killed some fish. It was tough last Wednesday for us, got on some deep fish but we struggled to get them to bite. Boated 12-15 in 9 hours.

this isn't that unusual on Fayette during the summer. Many times it's just fish that have been caught and released. It doesn't take too much to stress a fish out when the lake temp is in the 90's. This is ONE reason I limit my bass fishing to the cooler months and spend most of my time in the summer at the coast chasing trout and redfish.

If they did, I wonder what they are trying to accomplish? I have only been fishing FCL for about 9 years but I have never seen it overgrown with vegetation.

Be safe,
