I'm assuming these automated format applications are using a cellular signal to post and link up with each other on an internet based site. Correct?
I wish I knew what cellular carrier they used. I haven't found one yet that will get a good signal on Fork or especially Toledo Bend.

This is the way of the future. Its coming guys there's no way around it.These fisheries cannot continue to sustain the type of tournaments where guys catch fish ride around with fish in the livewell all day and put them back in the water and expect the fish to go on live happily ever after. It just doesn't happen like that. We've all seen lakes ruined by several tournaments. I don't have data to backup my suspicions ,but I believe that the mortality rates on these fish a much higher than we will ever know. Just because right after a tournament theres not a hundred fish floating dead on the surface doesn't mean that they're not dying. We've all caught bass that look like they've been through a meat grinder and full of sores and bruises. I see guys abuse bass all the time fishing for fun not in a tournament. Someone else here said if I go to the lake and I keep 5 for dinner legally than most bass fisherman frown on me,but if I keep five in a tournament and five die after I get my check its ok. The present tournament format for most local regional and state tournaments is really outdated. There's no reason to keep fish in a livewell just to take him to a crowd of people so they can stroke your ego. Change always comes from the top and with the big money professional tournaments starting with this format it will trickle down slowly to the regional and local level.I could be wrong but personally I don't think most bass fisherman really care about the bass as long as they catch them and get a check. The only time most guys really care about the fishery is when the fish are gone or declining rapidly. It's really not that hard. Most guys honest but the guys who are going to cheat are always going to cheat regardless. Great thread Mark.

Just think how many more bass would've died on Fork during the TTBC had they not used the format that they did.

There has been a lot of studies done on how fish are affected by being put in love wells and hauled around and there is very little evidence to support even a significant mortality rate. Like I said earlier, I've seen studies where they put trackers on fish that were caught in tournaments and released and they usually make it all the way back to where they were caught in a very short time. When you see a decline in a fishery following a lot of tournaments, this is often due to the increased fishing pressure making the fish become very educated. Take fork for example, I am too young to have fished it back in the early 90's, but they say the fishing was unreal, and that the fishing now is not as great as it was back then. Well there is a 16-24" slot(roughly 3-9pound range), so it is not realistic to blame the decline on fish killed during tournaments. Like many lakes, this decline is likely due to the fish being heavily pressured and educated by having 500 boats and 5+ tournaments every Saturday. Honestly there really is not the means to bring it to a smaller scale at this point. When money is involved, you cannot trust people's word as validation. I've fished in a tournament with 20 boats with a payout of about $400 and a guy who always seemed to be an honest guy brings in a turtle bitten 7 lb dead bass with flies on it. Money brings out the worst in people

It is a "made for tv" format. Would not work well for local tourneys. But, it is great for tv.

I agree.. Personally I think it would be the best thing to happen to tournament fishing since the start of catch and release. As for the death rate and delayed mortality rate of tournament fish. There have been several studies done on the delayed mortality rate. One of the worst was done on Amistad several years ago. They put a percentage of the release fish in a large cage. I don't remember what the death rate was.. But it was WAY to many. In my opinion the death of fish was one reason BASS Elite series went to having a marshal instead of a non- boater... If you will remember when they went to Falcon and set all the records they lost a TON of big fish. I heard rumors that they were not invited back if they could not do something about the dead fish.. I believe it was Arron Martins who said- on film..That he had his fish early and spent the rest of the day trying to keep them alive.... The very next tournament was Amistad, they limited the non boater to only 3 fish for that event.. The next year is when they went with the marshal program.....Much easier to keep 5 fish alive per boat than 10... Much better for there image.. I don't care what kind of live well system you have.... those big fish will not survive the trip.
