I think everyone agrees if you find it, fish it. It is a public lake.

Am I reading this wrong ?

It's those who drive around looking for those who have found fish, that are Potlickers.

If I couldn't go out on any body of water and put a pattern together on my own, I wouldn't fish.

Like I said before, it is unfortunate that new American ways is "Why work when, I can get it for free"

Am I reading this right ? You have never
Went out saw someone catching in a certain
Area Bp or pylons etc and went back and marked
And fished ?

Only when sandbass fishing!

NO! Because not all piles you see on the bottom of the lake are man made. Believe it or not, there are BP's on every lake that were not put there by someone, and even if they were, they belong to whoever finds them. Once they are dropped, they belong to the fishing public.
To me a Potlicker is someone who can't find fish on their own. They rely on others to put them on fish. Someone who does not take the time to learn patterns. Someone who doesn't take the time to learn how to use their electronics. Someone who cares only about catching numbers no matter how they do it. Someone who uses others for the sake of catching fish. I call them "Pockets", Because they are always in someone's pocket. That's the only way they can catch fish. To lazy to learn. Ain't that right "Pockets"?
That's the bottom line.

So basically someone who hires out a guide? This thread is hilarious.

We all had to learn where and how to fish from someone. I'm still learning. So, I'll be potlicking for the foreseeable future.

Texboxer gets it. I think of those people as those who like to catch but don't really like to fish. Kinda like the high fence hunter who goes out and pays for the "trophy" rack and shoots the farm raised, genetically engineered deer. It's still hunting but just barely. It takes all kinds and there are plenty of fish to go around.

Like I've said before. If I meet you on the water I'll gladly share information. Now posting hotspot locations on the internet for the "catchers" who are too lazy to go looking on their own is another story. But we can all do our best to promote the sport. The number of ethical anglers is diminishing in highly populated areas. Teaching others and helping struggling anglers find fish is a reward in and of itself.

If you know what you are looking for, its easy to see the boats that are on the fish. I don't personally carry binoculars or use 360, side scan or big screen tft display imaging to find fish but that's just a matter of personal preference. Life is short, enjoy the ride. Enjoy fishing and helping others!

Thats why ive never understood why people put guide advertisement on thier boats it is a big sign saying, FOLLOW ME. IM A GUIDE AND KNOW WHERE THE FISH ARE.
2 Of the best guides I know, have no advertisement on thier boats. They are also very stealthy and proactive in launching from different areas, and taking other measure to mix things up. People who are on the lake, in thier own boats, will rarely chase you down, to hire you. why would they when they can follow you from spot to spot.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I dis agree on your Bp logic .. Most Bp are man made ..
Now I can see were you think there made by Mother Nature
Because all you fish is Waco. . Floating timber and trash everytime
It rains .. So I can see were your head is. .. Far as pockets
Everyone had to get in a pocket to learn something .. Don't bs ..
Someone had to teach you to ride a bike tie your shoes
Wrap a present .. Far as numbers ? Dude it's called catching
Fish .. It's called figuring the pattern out by using your
Electronics .. Everyone has pot licked including you ..
Is what it is ..

I don't consider you or others that are willing to learn and then go out on their own and find fish, "Potlickers". The reason being is, you are willing and trying to learn to do it on your own. Some don't even try. They figure why learn when you can hop in someone's pocket and take a free ride.

As far as paying a guide, well they are paying so there's nothing free about it. And I'm sure anyone who pays for a guide is gonna come out of it with some knowledge of how to catch crappie. The key is learning and doing it on your own. My 2cents

Most every time I go fishing, I usually run across folks fishing, that have no real idea of how or where to fish, but yet they are out there on the water giving it a go. Usually, even if the folks are total butts to me, I will offer tidbits to help them catch fish...I only have to watch someone for 15 minutes or so (sometimes it only takes a glance), and I can tell you much about their fishing abilities, good or bad. A persons attitude is what I hope to positively influence, when I offer suggestions, tackle, tips, tricks, depths, or even fishing locations (with tips for how to fish that structure.) I just think it helps the perceptions of potential and future fisherman toward fishermen in general, plus it promotes the sport of fishing. I wasn't born with the fishing knowledge I have now, so it should be evident that I have received much help along the way...Yes, I make my own way...but that doesn't mean I am above letting someone else take the lead. In fact, that is why I like this forum and its members so much, fishermen of different skill abilities helping each other out and sharing information!
