Stopped this am on way to dentist, trying new rod/reel combo, Abu Garcia. Anyway, tied on a brand new top water KVD lure using a little different knot for me anyhow, Improved Cinch knot. Set the 'fall' for the lure, threw a few times. Then while setting the 'magnetic drag' on the left of reel, cast out.....only to see my lure literally 'flying away'. Only then to realize, my 'new' knot had just come untied and there went the lure! Arghhhhhhh........ The only thing I can think of is that I didn't 'wet and cinch' down the knot but, I know I did (at least I think I did, cinch it?? Thinking I will go back to and never stray from the time proven Palomar Knot! Anyone else have 'knot tying' nightmares? God Bless

I tie 1 knot 99% of time and I have never known it to actually fail.
Sounds like you did not get the tag end through the correct loop and off into the wild blue yonder your bait went.

If you don't get it tied correctly it breaks easily. You made a mistake somewhere. You should get the topwater back.

Been using imp. clinch since I started tying my own hooks and lures, never had an issue with the knot other than with braid and it slipping sometimes but that is solved with a dot of superglue.
All my lures are tied with either palomar or imp clinch knot.

Probably right. Sinking feeling after just thinking, "Man, that was a great cast!" Only to realize...yep, it's gone! I was/am checking http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots for the 'correct way' ...guess I didn't do such a good job at tying it as I thought. Good catch in what went wrong even without having been there to see. LOL, you probably would have laughed your butt off. God Bless I tie 1 knot 99% of time and I have never known it to actually fail.

Being a fairly new fisherman I use that knot almost exclusively. Works well for me. You just need to give a tug after you have tightened. Sometimes it will slip if tied wrong.
Learned the hard way using it with braid when I lost a big un.
I know there are better knots and I have started using the Palomar more.

Improves cinch is quick and easy... 5 turn sandiego jam is almost as easy and stronger. No knot tied correctly will just cast off though. We've all fumbled one at some point or another though, don't sweat it. Better to tie a lousy knot and cast a bait off than tie a lousy knot and watch an amazing fish fly off with the lure IMO
The worst is during a frenzied tournament retie and you go to clip tag end and clip main line and just want to throw a tackle box into the lake...

R I P Same here.. However if you were using braid, I wouldn't recommend that knot without using super glue. A double wrap palomar is best IMO for all braid knots..
