I can see it now. Next year's new law will be for the corps. to install huge sky nets over every lake to insure that all waterfowl and rodents do not visit another impoundment. Everyone agrees that lakes and ponds are naturally stocked by wildlife so we must put a regulation on them also. Remember when you could just go buy minnows and go fishing. Now they think everything is such a "big deal" and they think the perceived problem will be solved with another law. The ducks could care less. Man i agree! Kinda wishing i wouldnt have posted this. The birds carry all kinds of eggs in the mud on their feet. I like Barry Stokes but who knows where he heard this from..

That is not unusual in New Mexico, bait dealers have a tough time getting a permit and bait. We have had some bad deals when the NM Fish and Game allowed goldfish as bait and then we had a buzillion goldfish in some lakes like Bluewater and QUemado. Now they stock the lakes with Tiger Musky, goldfish gone so are some trout. So the Gov has to get involved and make it all messed up, buying bait is tough and expensive, now. No one better mess up anymore trout lakes. Goldfish in bass lakes don't reproduce they don't make it to tomorrow.

This coming from the guy that years ago at Highport ramp on Texoma, as I'm in boat waiting to load, pulls his boat out of water and stops right in the way to start unloading equipment into his truck while completely blocking the ramp/lane he used. Finally after my buddy was able to use one of the other lanes I let him have it when I was pulled up next to, then past him out of the way. Not sure if he had been called those names before !!! Guess if you are "famous" the boat ramp courtesy doesn't apply. I generally give the weekenders the benefit of the doubt on being oblivious on using the ramps but he definitely should have known better.

I love people who don't think. Just like the Zebra mussels. They are taking water out of Texhoma and putting it in other lakes and water runs down the river to other lakes to other lakes and so on. Just like the guy above said when you fish with live bait, some always get of the hook, or sometimes you just drop them in the water trying to bait your hook. Some people are always looking for a cause. TP&W have come up with the Zebra mussels scare to keep something to do. Now when you take bait from anywhere other than out of the lake you have to have a receipt for it. Doesn't matter what you are fishing for.

Everything revolves around money..... Goobers on fishing shows don't get paid to pimp live bait.... What better way to get more customers than to invent a problem. Environmentally speaking having plastic baits and lead weights thrown into a reservoir which don't decompose is more of a problem, or how about the 2 stroke outboard that spits out oil onto the lake increasing mercury content, or how about people spraying weed killer aka agent orange on their lawns and that washing into the lakes, all of these and more are higher on the Enviromental impact chart than minnows!! . I'm no greenie but I think he could have chosen other things to be conscious about.

Sorry, I'm tired of Michelle O and the Feds telling us what to eat, what insurance we have to buy, and now Barry telling us how bad minners are in our lakes, even though the U.S. Government did introduce carp in our lakes to help us. Lots of fisherpeople like to use minners, especially beginners, children and ladies and have lots of fun using them. How can you say don't dump them in the lake when you loose so many fishing? The MAN will probably put a big fat tax on them soon and then they will be fine to use and dump.Oh well.

I think someone should look it up but I don't think the parks and wildlife department would let stores sell minnows that were not indigenous or that were invasive to the area.
It does not make sense to sell minnows to people if they are invasive.
That is where the government should start if there is an issue with dumping USED minnows in the local water that probably wont live long after anyway. Until then I will continue to dump whatever I have left if there is no one else around to give them to to use.

It's all good, no worries. I'm still hauling bait from and to. When the higher ups prove to me that I'm transferring more zebras than they are with the pipelines, I will stop. But I till then, if I get a ticket, I will see ya in the courtroom.

You have a very good point there! The pipelines will bring anything and everything.

Dang it! I'm a woman child! Being as I almost always hook and line fished salt, and shrimp were so cheap, and I could eat the leftover bait, I just never learned how to use fake bait. Being up here in fresh water, man, I am sucking at it. Seriously. I can count two fish I caught in fresh water on fake bait. Oh, but hotdogs? Perch by the dozen.
Even in salt, lets see, some hard heads on a white grub looking thing, and occasionally some specs on a chartreuse cocahoe. Oh, and hard tails, but hard tails will bite on a beer can tab. Shrimp, live cocahoes and cut bait. That's what I used. That's nearly all anyone I knew used. We poked fun at fake bait users. Said all that junk caught was fishermen.
Maybe they're just trying to keep the fish safe from me. I've amassed a modest collection of fakies all the same. Yep. They caught me.
But yeah. The answer is don't sell foreign or invasive bait. Texas has native minnows. Sounds like a business opportunity.
