Had both of mine in the boat by the time they were 6 months old. 11(girl) & 8(boy) now and they still love it. Have another 2 week old girl now and I'm sure she'll see her 1st fishing & camping trip before the end of the year.

I can remember how old they were, but pretty much as soon as they were able to work a rod and reel. One is as hooked as I am, and the other likes to go for fun, but isn't really interested in tournaments yet.

my then 3 yr old went out last winter with me, with air temps in the forties and light rain and hard wind. he caught zero and i only caught 2 but he stayed out there, by his choice as i kept asking if he wanted to go home, for 8 hrs and had a blast. each kid is different, just make sure they are having fun and remember that you are taking them fishing, they are not coming fishing with you, make their fun the priority.

My son started running trot lines with me at 2 and 1/2. He loved it and now at 15 is a fishing fool he still prefers catfish or perch to bass but will get on the bass hard when they are biting. My daughters are 13 and mostly like to swim and boat ride. They only fish when they are really biting but I don't force the issue.

I started at 18 months with my first daughter. Lots of bream fishing or chasing schools of whites in the mornings so that she had lots of action.

I took my boys out at an early age but they weren't that interested in fishing. They liked it when the fish were biting but fishing is just not in their blood like it is mine, so I let them know that they could go with me any time, or not, it was their choice.

When I was younger my parents had me playing baseball, said it was fun, so I played for two years. I hated that. They never asked me if i liked baseball, they just thought I would have fun because others were. I still don't like baseball. I like fishing. My Grand paw took me fishing. He loved to fish also.

My son and I fished some, and with my daughter a little. Like EZ, they really did not show any interest.
I wish we had spent more time then fishing. We did ALL of his sports together, me being his number one fan. Now he's 40 and lives far away, like my daughter.
Wish we could fish together now.
Those times together are PRECIOUS!
You will know, when to take your child with you. Differs with each child.
Take pictures.....lots of them.
God Bless

first big bass (maybe 3-4#) caught on a minnow on the bank of table rock. grandparents lived just south of the lake in arkansas on kings river, still remember that day well (someone else cast the bait I just held the rod and ran backwards to land fish). there was something about catching that fish that hooked me hard.

I can't ever remember not fishing, my dad started taking me out with my mom when I was really young on the boat.

Like 6-7 months probubaly. By the time I was three or so I guess is whn I can first really remember going, a d always begging my dad to take me. Like throwing fits at day care and dad having to take off work to go take me fishing(I doubt he really minded that lol).

My son is 6 months now and went on his first camping trip and boat ride, counting the days till he's ready to fish. I just hope he enjoys it as much as I did with my dad when I was growing up.

I had my son in the boat at around 2. We would mainly drive around the lake chasing birds and mud ducks.

Been taking my daughter to the neighborhood pond for about 18 months. She just turned 4 and I took her out on the boat for the first time a couple months ago. Won't be going to the big lake til she gets better at swimming.

The best advice I can give when taking kids out in the boat is to plan a good place to beach the boat and let them out on the bank to run around and throw rocks, etc. My son still has more fun on the bank than in the boat and he's 11 now. Most of them just don't like being stuck in the boat for a long time.
