Just curious. What age would you start taking your boy (or girl) fishing on the boat with you?

As early as you can. Make the trips short and make sure they catch something. They will loose interest quickly if they are not successful. Basic tackle set up and a can of night crawlers.

Perch jerk'n as early as possible that they can kinda understand the goal... then graduate to casting at sandies(or trolling is how my granddad started me) I (6?) idk, I can't remember NOT perch jerk'n and trolling for sandies... I was probably 10 maybe when I went on first real bass fishing trip(dad doesn't fish unless they are on fire so I went with grandpa and uncles when I could. Bout the same time dad started taking me to the bubbles at pat to cast for sandies.

I take my 4 year old nephew sometimes. As long as he gets to cast something he's happy. I just put on one of those Berkly swimbaits and he has a blast. Little guy outfished me one day too.

Took grand-daughter out when she was 5 and cast rattletraps for sandies, she caught 2 and didn't want to bring them in the boat, then she just wanted to fast so we did that too. Took my kids out when they were maybe a bit older. My son would catch a fish then want to read a book. My son and daughter also loved to use Berkley trout baits and rigs for rainbows in Colorado. Me too, although I did better with the teensy weensy rattle traps. Those fish had probably not seen them before. I had a few people ask me what I was using because I was catching and they weren't. Grand-daughter says she can't hardly wait until she comes and visits so she can use the rods and reels I gave her for Christmas. Plan on going at least a couple of times while she'd here in July. Just have to cover the metal on the boat this time of year so kids don't get burned. We'll probably have to go fast too.

I started taking my oldest son when he was 3. Short trips to places you would expect to catch a lot of fish. Before going out on the boat though I had him at the pond fishing for perch and crappie.

I started taking my son at age 2, absolutely loved it, he spends more time at home playing in the boat then with his own toys!I took him last year age 3, and fished 2 full 8hr tournaments with him, and never complained once, i let him reel in all the fish, and take some toys with him, along with his fishn pole, he was a happy camper!!

Took little man on his first trip at 2. Now he's almost 5 and fishing is all he wants to do. He will be casting in the little pond at Pelican this weekend when were not on the boat I reckon.

Started taking my daughter when she was just over two. It was hilarious, she got mad at me when I threw her fish back into the water. She didn't want me to throw the fish because she thought it would get hurt. She is die hard now and loves fishing, even if she isn't catching anything.

Kids are different; some like it and some don't. We took my daughter with us on all the CAST tournaments back in the early 90's. She learned to fish very well but never fell in love with it like I did. She just found other things in life that she rather do than get up early and hit the water.
I am still proud that she is not a stranger to the water and fishing. If she had to survive by catching and eating fish and living off the land she could do it. She still loves the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting; but she can take it or leave it.
