In my first sit inside raptor i caught a water mocasin in my castnet. I thought it was a stick, i had some shad in the net too so i emptied it out on my seat, i was standing just behind the seat area. When it fell into my seat it was mad. I broke my paddle over its head. It still swam off after i flipped it into the water. Very scary stuff.

Was on the river a few weeks ago with some good friends My son was sitting up front. We saw some water snakes makin out on a log jam. As I pointed at them my boy started to panic because I wasnt close to him I think. I told him they ment us no harm and then not to be afraid...calm down Son Iits just Some snakes Kissing. He did and we watched them for a bit before they became aware that we were staring at em Get your freak on. Then they seperated and swam up Into the jam.

Did you change his mind about that before he got in? I thought it was going to just swim on by but when it raised it's head and started up the bow, it was full speed reverse. I'm still amazed at how much grip they have.

One of the most helpful things I ever did was learn the different types of venomous snakes in the area. Anyone spending a regular amount of time outdoors should learn to identify the types of venomous snakes in their area. I think there are only 4 types of venomous snakes around here... Learn to identify them and it will ease your fear of snakes.

This is my 1st "snake season" in the yak. After seeing one every time I have been out the past 3 weeks I am now carrying "protection". I refuse to go over because a snake thinks I look like a good rest stop. they are out fellas!

I get a little freaked fishing in standing timber at night. I spent sat night all tensed up waiting to feel that slithery feeling on my neck or arm. Even though I've been out amongst them hundreds of times it's always in the back of my mind

I'm not so much worried about the snakes as I am of the gators that could be lurking around.

You know, with the exception of Choke Canyon gators, every one I've ever encountered wanted nothing to do with me. On the other hand, I've swatted many a snake away from my boat/kayak

same here with gators. I grew up in houston and have had them follow bait to the shore all the time but never felt threatened by them. moccasins are crazy devils. they seem to want confrontation. I hooked a tree once and climbed it to get my lure. thankfully my friend stop me halfway....there was a cottonmouth on the next branch I was fixing to grab hold of. spooky
