So I learned two important things today..Dont antagonize snakes and plug your scupper holes while in their territory. The snake submerged like normal then the next thing I see is by buddy slapping something inside his yak with the paddle and yelling *HES IN MY ****** BOAT $#@#!! only to do a back roll over the side into the water flipping his tarpon 140 as well. luckily it was only waist deep and he wasn't bitten

This terrifies me. It's bad enough that I saw a half-dozen snakes cruising across my neighborhood lake last outing, but now you're telling me they will board the yak? And not in a nice, obvious way, but by sneaking in through the scupper holes? I'm going to have to find and buy a shark-shield that works on snakes. Glad to hear your buddy was okay, I bet that experience got his heart going.

panicing makes it worse. keep cool and still hes not looking to make you a meal, or waist his venom on you, unless you give him a reason to. i have had them come on my dad bass boat while fishing and just hang out and soak up the sun, no harm.

I've ended up with bait fish in the boat through scuppers - never snakes. But thanks for the thought.

Snakes can get in any kayak, and they can do it faster than you think. Its the rattlers and cottonmouths I would really worry about, they can be flat out aggressive when they want to get out of the cold water http://www.bassmaster.com/video/bass-channel-rattle-snake#

Does anyone want to buy a used kayak? I may just stay home now and watch tv.

I hate to even think what would happen if I saw a snake head looking through my scupper

The chances of a cottonmouths (which aren't that common in most areas in TX) head fitting through a scupper hole are pretty slim. 99% of the snakes you see are non-poisonous. No worries.
