I am trying to fine 14-18 foot calcuta canes poles around DFW. Does anyone know of a vendor that may have them or are they a seasonal item?
Also I remember how we would rig our lines but I would like to hear how y'all rig yours. I started teaching my daughter how to fish with a spinning rod but want to show her the basics of cane pole fishing. She is turning 3 on Wednesday and wanted to wrap one for her birthday, I think she would dig getting a giant stick for her birthday.
Also she picked up fishing with the spinning reel without me even telling her how (I guess she just watched me). I even had someone walk up to us and say "Holy cow she can fish with that...and she is even using it correctly". Talk about being proud. Got her on video catching her first fish with it just before she turned two.
I would like for her to try her hand at a cane pole now (I know it is sort of backwards). So any help on where to get a couple of them would be great.
Thanks in advance, Shifty

Check out Walmart of Academy they do have some cane pole not sure about calcutta i know they are pure bamboo ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) If you know any public land where you can get bamboo for free you can cut one and bring home and rig it yourself too . Here's my old school bamboo fishing method and some discussion about it . http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/6791127/1/Testing_my_new_bamboo_Rod

I was looking for the full calcuta cane poles not the break apart ones. I don't think I have ever seen them at Wal-mart but will check again. My father-in-law has an entire mangrove of bamboo on his land but it is the light green style and splinters easily, it is not the dark brown super straight style like calcuta.

You need to pick one carefully which is thin with thicker parts on end part which you use as handle . Make sure tip part is not too thin . You can always clean them and paint it if you want and use custom stuffs to decorate your bamboo .

Gonna stick to finding some true calcuta. Thanks for the tips on the other style though.

I tried Fisherman's Supply on 30 & Bobtown @ Hubbard.
They had two. One had some weird burn marks halfway up it...the other was just weird looking. I will keep trying around.
